how do i cut this foam?

Sign me up as also an electric knife user when I'm cutting foam. The electric knife is much like a bread knife, serrated, long & narrow. Not so sure any kind of wood saw would work, but what might also work if you're careful is a soldering iron. Make a line with a felt tip pen to be your guide for a straight line. If you don't have an electric knife, you might try finding one at Goodwill or the likes. It isn't until you've cooked the fam a few turkeys or big roasts you find out what a labor saving device it really is!

What would be good, medium or high density, for use on a couch to increase the height and comfort, so I can sleep on it after my hip replacement?

I have this answer foe sure I used high density I love it but it is a little too firm after a hip replacement use the medium you pick the height by the thickness of the foam you buy. I sleep on it every night because of a bad back. It has been a year and it is still perfect

If I put the 2' foam under my current cusions will it make them firmer and add to the height? Also, will the foam show when you look at the couch?

That's just what I did with the foam...added it the family room and basement couch cushions. It did add height & made the cushion a lot firmer. I used my current couch cushions as a template & cut the foam just slightly smaller (probably less than 1/4 inch smaller) so that it would be easier to stuff the new cushion in with the old & so that it wouldn't show.

How long does it take the smell to go away?

Mine both definitely smelled strongly
