RockportMen's Northfield Waterproof Oxford

I like a more traditional walking shoe. After reading other reviews, I was not sure that I would like these, but with my previous experience with Rockports being very positive, I decided to take a chance. The shoes arrived we packaged and in excellent condition. The size is perfect and and I love the sole--lugged but also cushioned. The look is traditional, and so far, they have held up well.Some other reviewers commented that the look was "pleather" rather than leather. Having had shoes from other makers (Johnston and Murphy, Allen Edmonds), this is waterproofed leather. It has a different sheen than natural leather, but does a great job of repelling water.All in all, I highly recommend this shoe.

These are great looking shoes and despite my initial feeling that they would be harder than I liked, they wore extremely comfortably. Most shoes I have to use a cushion insert -- not so with these. Color I like a lot and fits almost anything and they're flexible enough to be worn almost anywhere but dressy enough so as not to need too many steps up, unless you're going full-on formal. $80 is a pretty good price for these...right now, anyway. It may change and I will update as necessary.Update 01.20.14After months of wearing this as my go-to shoe for outside visits, four days ago was the first time I've had to polish them, so they wear extremely well. They are pretty comfy, even for extended periods of standing/walking and they have been notably good to wear in the elements. I suspect they will be too hot for the warmer months, but this is doing pretty much all of the heavy lifting for me during the cooler months, with occasional spelling by the Doc Martens (also reviewed here) when I want a slight color/look change. Easily the best dressy shoe I've owned.

I've been a long time wearer of the Rockport Northfields and have purchased 5+ pairs of these over the years. I like that they can serve a dual purpose as a business casual shoe as well as something you can wear in an everyday environment with jeans and a tshirt and not look out of place in either.A defining reason I went with the Rockport was for the comfort it provides during an all day wear, which was very important to me, and the fact that this shoe comes in solid extra wide size. I normally wear EEEE shoes and that can be challenging to find in an oxford style shoe. I would say that it is still slightly narrow for a EEEE sized foot, but the leather does stretch out to accomdate eventually and is still comfortable to wear after the first week or two.The downside to these shoes is their durability. As I've mentioned, I've owned more than five pairs of these shoes and that is because they don't seem to last more than a year and a half before the tread wears out and the soles also start to go. I'd really like it if they lasted a bit longer, but I do keep coming back because those 1.5 years are pretty comfortable and that is what matters most.

The leather and construction of the shoes looks very high quality. The cushioning of the shoes when I walk in them is amazing. The tread provides great traction and should prevent any slipping in wet conditions.

These shoes are lightweight and comfortable, and a good value.Sizing is true. They appear to be well made. Packaging was excellent and shipping was rapid.I would recommend this to anyone looking for a business casual shoe.

UPDATE: I guess the third time was not the charm after all. I bought these in January. As the year progressed, the soles quickly started to wear away. By Labor Day, the soles were as smooth as a pair of slippers. Given the style of sole when I bought them, I was surprised this was possible. The smooth soles were not much of an issue until winter came. Once the snow came, these shoes were no longer safe to wear. I never would have guessed the soles could wear away so quickly. I am updating my rating to only one star.The first time I ordered these shoes, they lasted about a week and then one of the shoes started to make a clicking noise when I walked. Based on what I found on the Internet, I suspect some adhesive broke loose inside the sole. I sent those back and got a replacement pair. The new pair felt good and did not develop a clicking noise. However, the laces quickly started to significantly fray. My original plan was to simply get a replacement set of laces from Rockport but that did not work out so I returned the shoes again. At the point where I returned them, I had worn them about three weeks. One lace had broken at that point and the other one was imminent. I have now had the third pair for a month and they have been great. They are comfortable, don't make any clicking noises, and the laces have not broken.If the third pair was the only pair I ever had, I would probably give these shoes five stars. Since it was necessary to return the first two pairs I ordered, I can only give the shoes three stars. Hopefully, you will get lucky and get a good pair on your first order.
