Biocide Systems Room Shocker Musty Odor Eliminator for Rooms, 6 Pack

I’m giving this product five stars, even though I experienced a malfunction with it. I contacted customer service, and within about an hour, the founder of the company personally called me to discuss what had happened. He was incredibly kind, genuinely concerned, and immediately refunded my money without making me go through Amazon. The malfunction was not due to anything the company had done wrong, but rather an issue with an ingredient they had sourced from a supplier—an ingredient they no longer use. Things can go wrong with any product, but how a company responds says everything. This company went above and beyond to make things right. Truly amazing customer service, and absolutely deserving of five stars!

This product worked well for me. I had a spare room where my elderly cat lived, and she sometimes peed on the walls along the perimeter, plus she had a sensitive stomach and frequently threw up on her bed in the room, on the carpet, everywhere. The room had taken on this strong pet smell, not just the urine, but the barf and just stinky animal smell. I pulled up the rug, which was on top of concrete, I cleaned very well with "Kids n Pets" enzyme cleaner, and used Killz low VOC aerosol primer to seal the concrete under the damaged carpet, replaced the pad and carpet, and used the primer on the baseboards and lower 5th of the drywall. Let's say the urine smell was remedied with these steps. But there was still a musty animal odor in the room, not too terrible, but you could immediately tell a sick old animal lived here, and I wanted to use the room as an office where clients would come (I'm an accountant.) I waited until sunset, closed the blinds and sealed the incoming and return register for the central air with cut up garbage bags and masking tape. (The instructions say to turn off central air, but I live in Florida and it's hot, no chance we're doing that.) I used warm tap water, shook up the bag as instructed, and put the container in the middle of the room on a stack of books (that were also stinky.) Within an hour or so the room smelled like a pool, and the smell was seeping under the door, so I wedged a towel under it to seal the room. This worked and I could no longer smell the chlorine in the hallway. I left the shocker to work overnight. In the morning I opened the blinds and the window with a fan running in the room while I kept the door shut to let it air out. After a few hours I opened the registers and the door, and closed the window and let the a/c run, even though it still smelled strongly of chlorine, I could tell the gases had cleared, and it was just a residual odor. By the next day the pool smell was completely gone and opening the door to the room was no longer like being hit with a brick wall of animal smell- in fact, it smelt like NOTHING. No leftover pool smell, no musty odor, no cat barf or pee, really no discernible smell whatsoever. I'm back on amazon to buy some more of these, one for my car which has a yeasty sour smell (i'm guessing spilled beer from the 4th and years of milk spillage from my toddler) and my guest room which is infrequently used and has a stale smell. I think the source of the odor needs to be removed as much as possible- like, I'll need to shampoo the car interior first to clean the milk spills- but for those lingering stinks that work their way into soft or porous surfaces, this is probably an effective solution. I'm very pleased and would recommend this product to friends.

I used 2 of the 4 to see if they worked, seem to so I ordered 4 more . I did 6 in a 1200 sq ft house for animal smell, It seemed to work for about a week then the smell was back. not recommended for strong animal smells.

We were getting a stale, musty odor in our home that you could notice when you walked in. Cleaned everything in the vicinity from top to bottom and the odor persisted. Finally tracked it down to the crawlspace below the living area. The crawlspace is about 200 sq ft. Although there is a plastic vapor barrier on the bottom it did smell musty and there was evidence of some old rodent activity. I placed a room shocker in the center, closed up the space, and let it do its thing for 24 hrs. Then I aired the space out with a fan for about a half hour. We haven’t smelled anything since; just fresh air now when we walk into the house. Hopefully the odor won’t come back but if it does I still have another shocker to use. If I have to do it every 6 months it’s worth it. Highly recommend.

I have used this product before and just repurchased due to some significant smells in one room from a renter. I want to give 5 stars but can’t. I can’t give 5 stars because on a product like this that involves some pretty noxious fumes, the instructions should not be scan and download. They previously were a folded handheld copy of instructions. Easy to follow. I had just used an older version of this product with the printed instructions. I was confident I knew what I was doing. It’s a very easy product to use. I find the whole I must have my phone to read instructions to be obnoxious. I enjoy leaving my phone in one room and going about my morning without electronic attachments. Often forgetting what room I put said phone in. No where do I recall the printed instructions saying anything about popping and cracking noises. However, when I poured the water in the container it sounded like firecrackers in a bucket. Pooping and cracking is putting it mildly. I thought I was starting a war in a room and something was wrong. I opened window and smacked it outside as I wanted to have as little contact with the container as possible. Went to find the phone. Then went and found that stupid QR code. Took me to a product line up and buying options before I realized at the top in small print was a list of products to click for instructions. You might think you’re saving money with your QR code but I’m willing to be the sticker paper is more expensive than regular paper to just print the instructions.

We used two in an old house that had a man smoking in it for 40 yrs. There was a significant remodel including paint and flooring which subdued the smell, but as a turn of the century home we don't have central air and smells would increase with hot humid conditions. When it's hot and we close up the windows the smoke was very noticeable. We've tried a lot of things, but I was desperate with some people coming into town and having the smoky order. I ordered this and we tried it in the main room where the smoke smell occurred and the kitchen. We have been away for a night and had no problems with spills. Our reaction was that it smelled like the hotel room down the hall from the hotel pool, as it is a form of chlorine. But mildly ...a little bit refreshing rather than a pool. And it fades. Now to get to it… It worked! I have to admit I was so ecstatic that I used two more in our home for musty bedrooms. Fresh!! My closet traps traveling kitchen odors and it eliminated those too. You should take their recommendations on the quantity. I wasn't sure so I only ordered two at a time, but looking back I wish I would have taking care of the whole house at once. Note: it is strong smelling when it is working and I got a little headache from exposure, so you shouldn't be in the house when they're working. I recommend airing it out plenty after 24 hours. I didn't mind the feeding smile though. To me it smelled clean.

This works great, but only if you follow all the directions and make sure the room is sealed up well. In rooms where I could contain it, like the bedroom of our new apartment, it worked great. I'm ordering one more to hit the spare bedroom & closet. I used it in a storage unit to fumigate my fur coats, and they smell wonderful now. All the tobacco smell from my old apartment is gone, and the mustiness of non-climate storage is gone. On the other hand, in the basement of my new apartment it didn't work. That's because the basement has a cinder-block wall that was put in after the fact. The building is from the early 1920's and doesn't have a modern foundation. The Room Shocker will only work if it doesn't get sucked into the ground, or into the plumbing. I used this to treat a memory-foam mattress & pillows, stuffed animals, a non-washable comforter, and some dresses. The stuffed animals had the most remaining smell when I was done, but they were still noticeably better. I also treated some old drum cases, including soft cases made of vinyl and fabric that were in someone's basement for 20 years. (Vintage stuff.) The drum cases were noticeably better, but not totally better. Do not use this on vintage drums! The oxidation will ruin any old celluloid acetate or nitrocellulose wrap on the drums. If you don't care about the finish and you're getting the drums re-wrapped anyway, go ahead and try it. But I would expect it to ruin any vintage drum wrap.

Bought two containers to deodorize the front half of a one bedroom apartment. ~400SqFt. Container is equivalent to a 12oz soup bowl or your typical live-bait container for fishing worms. I followed the instructions to the letter on the first container, holding my breath and running out the door as soon as I poured water into the container, but it turned out to be a dud. No chemical reaction took place. I re-entered the apartment the following morning and there was no effect, zero. I even sniffed the container with the chemical packet expecting to find a sharp chlorine smell, or something. Nope, nothing. I used the back-up container the following night (best to use at night to minimize sunlight reducing effectiveness of the chemical). This time I really lingered after adding the water and I noticed an immediate difference in the product. Water caused a crackling-popping sound from the container, similar to Rice Crispies cereal. Also there was a noticeable yellowing of the inside of the container and yes, there was a strong chlorine(ish) smelling gas being produced. So once I verified this one was working, I ran for the door and returned the following morning. The result was mixed. The original odor I wanted removed was still quite noticeable along with a somewhat bleach odor like a swimming pool that had just been shocked. I opened the windows and turned on the fans and within 30 min the air was cleared out. I disposed of the used product and then left the apartment for the day. Returning later in the evening, I noticed the original odor was still present and noticeable. Despite the manufacturer's statements that their product removes odors permanently, it doesn't. I've ordered two more containers and plan to fire them off together in a last attempt to get the odor out. If they don't work, well, wasted money I suppose but what else can you do but try things until something works. FYI the original odor was from a set of living room furniture that was purchased used from a household that cooked with a lot of Curry spice. All pieces were washed and scrubbed thoroughly with a strong disinfectant and bleach cleaner. There is NO remaining food particles or odor sources on the furniture that can be seen, even on the bottoms. I'm hoping repeated treatments will eventually knock it out.

Set it, forget it, and then air it out!

Bought 6 of these for our 1200sqft (more than enough coverage of each one does 400sqft) house that had been smoked in by the previous owners. We tried a duct clean, ozone treatment, repaint and cleaned everything so we hoped these would work. Set them up before we left for the weekend. A few weeks later the chlorine smell and cigarette smell are both still here. The chlorine also discoloured two cloths we had out and just about killed two of my wife’s plants.
