Great improvement over the original, though the slightest of mismatches
Extremely easy to install. Wired up just like the original neck humbucker in my '95 MIM Tele Special. It's so much cleaner and more versatile. The original net pickup was terribly dirty and there was no out of it. At the same time it's response was flat and kind of boring. But, it was in such contrast to the sharpness of the bridge single coil that, with the Tele's 5-pos switch, it made for some very dynamic cooperation between to the two pickups. This new SD, while over all is miles ahead in every other way, some of the contrast is lost. But, in the end, I'm completely OK with giving that up for the improvement the SD has provided. If I had the chance, I do it again, no question. The only thing I really don't like about this pickup is that it looks so much like the original, hah. I guess I'll just have to prove that I swapped it out by playing it!

The humbucker.
Personally, I don't have that much experience to compare, but I had ceramic humbuckers to swap in my good old RG guitar, so… any noticable changes? You bet. It has old school alnico II magnets plus much lower output. In the result it doesn't sound harsh anymore; on the contrary, it has sweet and lovely sound, even though a bit dark in this exact guitar (basswood body, 24 frets, bolt-on). Probably, flatwound strings add something up to the darker side too, so if you have another setup it should be brighter. Speaking about the purpose of the change, I wanted this guitar to have a jazzy character and I got it. Don't believe anyone who say things like «instrument like this should be used only for metal/rock/hip-hip/minecraft» -- your piece of wood should comfortable enough, that's it, and the genre is up to you. Check «jazz on jem autumn leaves» on youtube, if you have any doubts. All in all, I left the review because for the moment it has 3.5 stars just because some dude got the wrong model. I don't know why this happened, but this pickup don't deserve this rating because of the shop's fault. I got right model and it sounds perfect, all glassy in a single coil mode (there're two ways to get the single sound; the first is to «turn off» the other coil and the second is to run both coils in parallel saving noise-cancelling effect by the costs of max volume. I use the second method, if it helps you). ps. community says that this is one of the best PAFs available. speaking of SD's pickups, there are two more that people seem to love and often compare with the subj model: antiquity and '59 (sh-1n). also you should know that «Seth Lovers» are not wax potted, so they do have microphonic qualities (really nice for airy sounds, but could be a problem for some who use heavy gain). 59' has alnico V and wax-potting, antiquity is alnico II, no potting, brighter.

Has the sound of an old pickup right out of the box
Put this in my ES 175 Eastman copy and it sounds exactly like one. The pickup is signed on the back by Seth and Seymour Duncan. Great update for any guitar I am sure.

Great pickup for a Bluesboy Tribute or other
Very nice pickup...I installed this in the neck position of a Bluesboy Tribute Telecaster. It really brought the guitar to life...and you need the four wire so you can get the polarity correct.. Great pickup...very satisfied...

Was shipped a 2 conductor pickup
This pickup actually sounds great (I have a 4 conductor Seth Lover in another guitar) but this was labelled a 4 conductor and in actuality was only a 2 conductor. May have been a fluke, but another strike was the pickup was really poorly packaged. The pickup was outside a small strip of air cushion plastic stuffed in the box, so it was right up against the box. If the box was dropped or slammed around during shipping the packaging would not have prevented impact to the pickup. Given those two things, I would be hesitant to use this seller.

I have a custom built 18 inch jazz archtop guitar in the Benedetto style and decided to swop the floating pickup for an in-built humbucker to get the 50's tone I have been looking for years. I have Gibson 57's on my other jazz guitars and found Jazz Guitar .com recommended the Seth Lover as a better pickup for Jazz. I couldn't agree more. I also changed all the electrics as well and the tone I now have is what I've been searching for, for 30 years. Unbelievable price as well. Half the price these normally go for. I don't play rock guitar, mainly fingerstyle jazz, and for that this pickup is superb.

I like Seymour duncan seth lover pickups, so had to give some stars. But the one I was sent was a 2 conductor version, not the 4 conductor one advertised. And the packaging was a pretty knackered and dirty, like it had been around for a while and opened many times. Perhaps others before me have received the same item and sent it back for the same reason.
