In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Today, ASICS offers a full line of performance-driven athletic shoes and technical active sports apparel and accessories dedicated to bringing harmony to the body and soul. Review: Best shoe since the old 2170s; very highly recommended (coming from a heavy runner with a history of injuries - love it!) - I know reviews are mixed, but I love the shoe. Fits perfectly. Feels cushiony. Light enough. Provides plenty of stability and minimizes roll. I am a 200 pound male runner that suffers from Sinus Tarsi syndrome due to my feet rolling, but I was able to go right out in this shoe WITHOUT my orthotics and have had ZERO issues after racking up some serious mileage. Also not a hint of return of previous plantar fasciitis issues. Comfort and injury free ... can't beat it, well worth paying a few extra bucks for. I did order the wider size, and am very glad I did; it does feel like it might be ever-so-slightly slimmer than other shoes I have had. By the way, I have not been truly thrilled with any shoe since the old 2170 from a few years back, but in my mind this shoe is every bit as good. UPDATE 8/2/15: As of 8/2/15 - just ordered my THIRD pair so I can swap out during the week, plus my original ones are starting to get some wear (for good reason). I have put down anywhere from 50 to 70 miles per week with ZERO issues, except my highest mileage pair has a little tear in the fabric on top of the toe-box near my small right toe joint (but purely cosmetic, even that pair still feels great). This is something of a miracle to me after suffering through injuries the last few years; this is more mileage than I did at my "peak" 20 years ago. The shoes aren't cheap but are so well worth it; still incredibly highly recommended! Review: Do you want to win? Then read this review! - Listen, I'm not going to waste your time talking about previous generations of this shoe. I won't waste your time and post pictures of shoes that look like it got run over by a lawn mower. I won't tell you some garbage that these shoes don't fit right. BUT...I will tell you why you need to get these shoes. If you want to be great, sexy, and athletic, then you need to buy these shoes. Why did I buy these shoes? Well, because I'm fast. A little too fast. Quite frankly, I set my last shoes on fire because I run fast as S!@#. I ran so fast, they literally started smoking and burned to a crisp. Oh well, enter the ASICS GT 2000. These things are the bees knees, they fit great, I still run fast as S!@#, and what can I say, I look hot wearing these! Why did I get neon orange shoes? That's easy, because I'm athletic. That's what athletic people do...We wear neon colors...because it makes me more athletic than someone wearing pastels, or boring dull colors. If you want to win, then you better throw out that bland workout garb, and get neon! Winners = hot colors, losers = not hot colors. In conclusion, these shoes have changed my life. Not only did I instantly get more muscles and endurance when I slipped my foot into them, but now I can't keep the ladies off of me. I gave this shoe 4 of 5 stars because it seems well constructed and comfortable, similar to past ASICS I have owned (I've been wearing them for 15+ years). However, I ultimately returned them because the size 13 I ordered was too small. I have read reviews here stating the same thing. Some say the GT-2000 runs small. Others say ASICS is making all of their shoes smaller than they used to. I have another theory. When I tried on these GT-2000 3 shoes and felt that they were too short and narrow in the toe box (particularly on the left since for me that foot is a little longer than my right one), I immediately pulled out a 2 year old pair of Gel-Cumulus 16 shoes. You know what? They were a little snug as well (although the toe box had more minimal construction which gave the impression of more room). I used to be able to order any ASICS size 13 and knew they would fit. Well, after many years of running and aging (in my mid-40s), I'm coming to the conclusion that my feet are changing more than ASICS is changing their shoes. I had this same problem recently with a pair of Mizunos that I bought (although my Reeboks in a size 13 are perfect...maybe Reeboks run big?). Today I went to a big box athletic store and tried on several brands of shoes. A few of the 13s sort of fit, but for the most part they all felt a little small (like you're wondering if you went and ran a few miles would you end up with black toe nails). I measured my foot on the scale and it was 13 on the dot. With athletic shoes you typically need a size up. I tried on the GT-2000 4 in a size 14 and they fit and felt right. It seems that I need to start wearing size 14 in ASICS. In conclusion, as you get older your feet lengthen and widen, having lost fat padding, tendons stretching, etc. So don't always blame the shoe manufacturer.

I've been looking for a good pair of running shoes
All, I've been looking for a good pair of running shoes, and these came up on a search I did for "best sneakers for heavy runners with low arches and over pronation". I am 5"8' 200 lbs. While I am far from a marathon runner, I enjoy a 5K a few times a week. A few months back I developed planters fasciitis and had to stop for a while to heal. I decided it was time to go back, and took some time researching the shoes I should buy. I wasn't aware that there were shoes made specifically for heavy, flatfooted people like me. Turns out I was running in wrong shoes my entire life and the latest injury was the result of that. With all of that being said, I have to tell you that these may be the best shoes I have ever ran in. My feet didn't hurt, and still don't, after multiple 5K's. I've been an avid New Balance customer but these have just won me over. I am a US 9 in NB, and these fit the same. TL;DR - I am 41 years old, 5"8', 200lbs, flatfooted and over pronate. These are the best shoes i have even ran in. Mac

The inside of the shoe is very comfortable. There is a good amount of arch support ...
PRODUCT REVIEW I will start off by saying I haven't bought an actual pair of athletic/running shoes in about 15 years. In fact, I don't think I've spent more than $30 on shoes in the past 10 or 15 years. However, I recently got on a running kick and realized that I NEEDED some actual running shoes. So, I did some research and came across the ASICS GT 2000 running shoe. This shoe was often seen on many of the recommendation list in regard to “best running shoes.” I found them here on Amazon and thought I would give them a try. The build of the shoe is top-notch. The material is very solid and doesn't feel cheap at all. I am very hard on my shoes (I have wide feet) and these shoes have stood their ground. The inside of the shoe is very comfortable. There is a good amount of arch support and the heel is very well cushioned. When I'm running, I feel no discomfort in my feet at all. I ordered the bright green shoes because I wanted shoes that would stand out at night. And, boy...do they stand out. The color is extremely bright and visible even in low-light conditions. If they get dirty, a simple wash in the washing machine (gentle cycle, of course) and they come out looking like new. I mentioned before that I have wide feet so I was little concerned that these shoes may not fit well. I usually wear a size 10-10.5 so I ordered an 11 just in case. To be fair, the shoes are a TINY bit narrow but they still fit my wide feet comfortably. If you have wide feet, just order a half-size larger than normal and you won't have any problem. SELLER REVIEW I received my shoes just a few days after I ordered them. Zero complaints about the seller.

Awesome shoes
Initially I bought a pair of these from a local track store. I went in and they fitted me to a perfect shoe. I suffer from plantar fasciitis and I have no doubt these shoes helped fight that because of the support they have on the arch. I know chide me if you must but yes I wear them regularly even when not running, mostly to try curing my foot. Most purists will tell you running shoes are strictly for running. I think these are great to wear daily though. Now I use the older pair to run in and the brand new pair for every day. Bear in mind because they are running shoes they're made with that breathable material. Going through puddles sucks but it's no fault of the shoe. I am really happy with these. And I do recommend the darker color if you want it for more than just running. The track store only offered the white which I personally find pretty ugly, but I needed good shoes and got them anyways. Sorry to blabber on.

Good road shoe for up to 400 miles
Just put 500 miles on these shoes over 6 months and now retiring them. These have been very good shoes. They are very comfortable and I really liked the weight. They never seemed too large or heavy. I primarily ran with them on roads and they are absolutely best for that surface. I would not run with them on trails because they are not designed for that. In fact, whenever I was running and had to go into some grass you could feel they were not designed for that surface. These are clearly road running shoes. Around 475 miles I started to seeing some wear on the top near my toe area (see picture). Also the shoe kind of has lost some of it's support. I would buy these shoes for up to 400 miles of road running. 5 star shoe for up to 400 miles on the road.

Almost...
I originally bought these shoes in August 2015 as a replacement for Asics gt-2170's, for which these appeared to be a worthy successor -- at first. But now that I've worn them awhile and through 3 races, I'm afraid that a worthy successor they are not. My chief complaint: the cushioning does not last nearly as long as it did for the 2170's, and I don't think these provide as much stability, either. Now, I'm not quite as avid a runner as I'd like to be, in part because I'm coming off an injury from last year, but also because I've failed to find a shoe that could hold a candle to the GT-2170. I've tried the previous iterations of GT-2000's, and this version seemed the most promising: the cushioning felt nearly the same, and I really liked that the toebox was roomier, too. Thus far, I haven't run very much this year: maybe 5-10 miles a week, and I've run in just a handful of short races so far, but the cushioning is already shot. I know for a fact I used to get at least 3 times the mileage out of the 2170's. After being a loyal Asics customer the last 4 years, I'm afraid I'm going to have to look elsewhere. (Note to Asics: whoever convinced you to move away from the GT-2170 line should be fired immediately!)
