Works very well
Like any good tool, this cable puller does it's job well reliably, without issue. I've used it for both brakes and derailleurs, and have other uses beyond that, like pressing against cable housings to make sure they're all the way seated in the shifters. The price is great considering how well it works and that it's a Japanese made product. It is possible to squeeze the cable too hard and make a section flat, ruining it to me, but I reckon any cable puller could do that.

well designed, and works great
I've been using the Pedro's version for years now and have always disliked it; flimsy, floppy lock that gets in the way, and a wide grip that's hard to use. Since the tool doesn't get used that much I coped. Then I needed to build a wheelset with with some extra light spokes which always have windup issues. I decided to use the tool to hold the spokes and used a zip tie to stop the tensioning lever, just needed the grip. 28 spokes times multiple adjustments was extremely painful for my hands with the thin, wide grip handles. I remembered this version and bought it. The difference was night and day, the grips are wide and flat and close enough to easily grab and hold. There's no lockout but outside of a shop experience where I had to help a customer this was virtually never needed. The metal is thicker making it feel more solid. Really one of the best versions of this tool out there.

Did what it needed to do well. Made decently. Should hold up.

My favorite bicycle hand tool!
This tool is the industry standard and great for adjusting brake and derailleur cables. I've also found it to be good for tightening zip ties.Remember to tin your cables after cutting and put just a bit of solder on them so the don't fray and can be pulled back through the cable housing to relube.

Very Useful, and Great Quality
This "4th Hand" tool is really well made, grips the cable without distorting or fraying it, and can put more than enough tension on the cable for any job I have needed it for.The other day, I had a riveted derailleur that was partially seized up on the bench, so I wanted to work some solvent and lubricant into the joints. I clamped a scrap of cable in the derailleur's pinch bolt and clamped this tool to the "tail" hanging out of the cable stop hole of the derailleur.Using the pliers action, I could "work" the joints of the derailleur in and out repeatedly until the rust ran out and fresh lubricant worked its way in. So, it saved me having to buy a new one. As far as I'm concerned, the tool paid for itself on its first use. By the way, it makes setting up brakes a breeze. Way better than the cheap knock-offs by far!

Changing the brake cable made easy
Not sure how anybody could change the bicycle brake cable without a similar tool to tighten the cable at the end. All in all it works great. It does not have a brake mechanism to keep the adjustment in place. It's not terribly sturdy but probably it does not need to be given its application - seems to be as sturdy as my EZ does it can opener. There are other options available at a range of prices from slightly cheaper than this one to double/triple the price so shop around and make your choice - probably the more expensive one are sturdier and will take more abuse before braking. If you are planing to maintain the bicycle brakes or the gear cables yourself, this tool saves the day. If you have a buddy from whom you can borrow one even better.

Good quality tool Made in Japan
I love it when I can get a good quality tool. Hozan and Park Tool are the best bike tool manufacturers out there and this tool is a good example of that. Sure this tool does not have a ratchet lock like the Park Tool version does, but this tool seems to be better at holding the cable with less effort from your hand. I have been using this tool often and I love the hell out of it. Like I said though, I am a sucker for quality tools and will gladly pay more for a tool that lasts a lifetime. This is one of those tools. Add this to your arsenal and you will not be disappointed.

They Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To
If you are simply a cyclist who changes your own brake cables every once in a while, this tool will be just fine for you.I am just a bit more of a home mechanic than that, and I have no problem with it except for the fact that it feels very cheap and flimsy in my hand, especially compared to the 25-year-old 3rd-Hand tool it replaced. If budget is an issue and you can't afford Park's version, don't think twice. Just buy this.

¡La mejor compra! La mejor herramienta
Excelente herramienta. No le pide nada a la marca líder. Quizá lo único, el seguro para retener la pinza, pero con un gancho o liga lo resuelvo... Muy bien hecha la herramienta, de buen material y la entrega adelantada... Realmente estoy sorprendido y satisfecho... La recomiendo por su costo-beneficio.

Total Confidence.
A solid tool that does grip the cable. Takes a little getting used to. With regard to the debate about cable ties, well, WOW. It pulls them up really tight, much tighter than by hand (I wanted to seal something up in a heavy plastic bag).
