They do have a chemical smell when you open the package. Sometimes it can be quite strong. When it is very strong I use the manufacturer suggested prep and let them soak in hot water for about an hour or little more. Then lay them out on a flat surface individually for the overnight. When I return they are definitely poofed and all smell is gone. I see reviews of people who use double sided tape and Velcro to attach to the wall or ceiling. You have to remember that sounds cause things to vibrate. The louder the sound the stronger the vibrations. most double sided tape warns against using in areas with loud noise. Velcro holds a little longer but those glued surfaces don't stick well to porous surfaces. I have installed every set with my staples gun like you would use for construction and my first studios foam has been installed very solid for nearly 15 years with no problem. Remember, these are foam and will absorb every bad odor they are subjected to. If you have people smoking in your studio that will stay forever. I have a guy in studio 3 that burns continuous incense and even when it's not burning the room smells like it is. These 1 inch squares aren't designed for A1 level studios. These are for your home studio or a kids playroom. They can be used as a secondary form of sound deadening products when you are using 2 or 3 forms of deadening products in a room or studio. They work great on ceilings right up against the wall where sound waves reflect off the wall at an angle and caught by the foam shapes. For lower on walls and in the middle of the ceiling its better to use the 22 inch squares that have pyramid shapes covering the squares or larger sections of egg crate foam. Using these as intended, I have never been disappointed in what they do. This seller has them at an excellent price. Buy a 50 pack from a music studio supply store and pay 3 to 4 times this price for the identical product. I just ordered 3 more sets for a studio I'm doing in Cincinnati Ohio in a few weeks. Don't go in expecting these to be your primary source for deadening and use the proper mounting hardware and you won't be disappointed.

Sound absorption is solid. These panels actually cut down the echo in the room and make a noticeable difference once you get enough of them up. Lightweight material, easy to work with, and effective for the price. Fit basic setups , MATERIAL IS MUSHY . Does not come with adhesive on back.

I really like these they look amazing in my office and really transformed the place as well as providing some shelter from the loud groanings of my 3D printer humming away in the other room. Sound suppression is evident. They also add a small amount of insulative value to the room. A cheap DIA makeover for sure! There's no smell after putting them up I guess I don't smell anything from them. They've held up now for several weeks and no issues. The foam cuts nicely and looks uniform and I have no issues with its quality.

These panels are about 1x1 foot. They are not as thick as I had expected, but they are decent. There is no fasteners or mounting adhesive included. They come vacuum sealed in a few separated bags. They look great on the wall in my studio though!

The product states it blocks out noise, well these are thin an thick the thickness varies. These will NOT dampen or drown out the noise you wish to not hear or want people to hear. Better yet if your going to get these, get some styrofoam sheet as well, grab some FlexGlue & put them on the Styrofoam sheeting, then take your FlexGlue an apply to the back of the styrofoam sheet, press firmly let dry, its not going to come off an the noise will be dampened. This is more for rooms that are already sound proof'd but you may have missed a " spot " around the door or corner. Pro's : none Cons: cheap, not as effective as stated by seller! wouldn't buy again!

I have used these to create a vocal booth for narration in a closet of my office. I bought one pack, doubled up the padding and glued it to the wall. These work great and brought my rook noise down, relieved some static, and were extremely easy to install. It’s a starter booth and these are starter products. Great if it’s your first go at it to get a more professional sound Had a slight smell the first couple days (just let it air out) size was great, value was right on the money!

it helps buffer sound, but it doesnt sound proof. bought this for my kid's room to muffle the many instruments he's decided to teach himself -- it kinda helps. but it also traps so much heat into the room that he needed 2 fans.

These perform very well for sound proofing. Alternating red and black look very cool on the wall. We did all four walls of a carriage house to convert it to a band rehearsal space. They totally eliminate sound leaking outside the studio. Just be prepared to spend money on high performance double sided tape. We initially used cheap tape and they fell off the walls in a day

The 1-inch thick foam does very little in reducing the noise. I should have probably ordered the 2-inch thick ones.
