Best bee book I've ever read.
This book gives readers an experience into the pioneers of modern bee keeping. The techniques are still appropriate and in use today. There are many jewels and hidden treasures in this read.

An amazing book
Tremendous insight into bees and beekeeping in general written in a very readable style. Hard for me to imagine that this book was written almost a hundred years ago but I guess bees back then were not much different than the bees we keep today. Rather than the usual dry textbook style usually seen in many other beekeeping tomes Dr Miller has written in a simple narrative style very reminiscent of a fireside chat or kitchen table discussion. While this book does not cover many of the current evolving hive issues (varroa etc) I would consider no beekeeping library complete without a well read copy.

Choose a different edition
Great book on bees. This edition has the figures (pics) in the wrong place and so it is hard to see what the author is referring to.

Would recommend this to all beekeepers
Would recommend this to all beekeepers. Miller has a writing style all his own, many of his comments are worth quoting. Lots of changes since he was bee keeping but he has many methods that still work that makes the book worth reading.

The text is not printed well.
It appears to be a copy not a traditionally published book. The text does not fill the page and at times is fuzzy.

Must-have for serious beekeeping study
This book is in the same category as Langstroth's "The Hive and the Honeybee" for time-honored fundamental knowledge of beekeeping. Dr. Miller was a fascinating storyteller & humorous writer. For example, he says that a sure way to prevent swarming is to dynamite the hives, but that wouldn't be very productive.... His humility is reassuring and comforting for novices; after 50 years of experience he tells us that he does not know the right way to do things, only what seemed to work best for him. This book has as much practical advice as the most modern books, despite the fact that it was written nearly 100 years ago.

50 years among the bees
It is amazing how little has changed in the world of beekeeping. Sure there have been changes, but overall things are being done today much in the same way they have been done since the Langstrogh hive was invented. The author was very careful to point out the way things were done in the past and tell about the changes and when they came about. I'm something of a history buff as well as a beekeeper and I enjoyed the book.

Very Badly Transcribed
The one star rating is NOT a reference to the content which is fascinating (and worth a full 5 stars), but this 99p edition is very badly transcribed with all sorts of typos and weird symbols inserted into the middle of words making it very difficult to read. There are no pictures either, which also spoils it.Splash out an extra 50p for the £1.49 version which is correctly edited and contains pictures. Worth it for the picture of the "Peabody Honey Extractor" alone...want to find out how a device that looks like an old washing machine worked.....read on.Anyone want to buy my cheap copy?

Very good read.
A good read. Yes in some places in old English style. But what must be remembered what you see in new books comes from these pioneers. It is not a how to do. But a knowledge book.

Fascinating insight
A must for all bee keepers who like to experiment.. modern bee keepers can learn more from the old masters than the best delivered course.
