For the gardener who irrigates
Most moisture sensors measure conductivity, and are six inches to a foot or so in length. These are inexpensive well made gypsum blocks that measure soil moisture at any depth from a few inches down to four feet. You bury the block leaving the wire exposed. The blocks have a resistance of several hundred megohms when dry, and a few hundred kilohms when wet. The company makes a rugged field grade meter, or you can make/buy one if you are electonically savvy. These are great little items.
