Assembly = straightforward and easy. Comes with two lengths of downrods
Assembly = straightforward and easy. Comes with two lengths of downrods. Quality and finish = very good. I thought the blades would be too plasticy, but they look and feel like real wood and are very well done. Fan Performance = fan is silent at all speeds and blows plenty of air to cool the small room I put it in. I'm not sure how it would fare in a large room because it does push a little less air than it's 5-blade brethren... but it seems powerful enough that I would give it a try in a 20x20 with 10 foot ceilings. There is no wobble at any speed, which is pretty impressive and a welcome surprise. Light Performance = much brighter than I thought it would be. It dims down in stages and that works fine, although I do wish it went just a little bit dimmer for those late night gaming binges (but that seems to be the problem with all types of LED lights in my house... they don't dim enough). When turning it off and back on it remembers the dimness setting (as expected). Other = Remote seems a bit flimsy but works great. White plastic with opaque silicone buttons is going to get dirty fast. No complaints yet, just being pessimistic about it. Overall: I looked at a LOT of ceiling fans (pretty much ALL ceiling fans everywhere) looking for something eye-catching and performant but not too expensive. I eventually settled on this one because of the good reviews, the decent price, and the simple eye-catching design that was just right to make you look twice without overpowering the room. I'm very happy with my final decision and would definitely buy this again. One final note... it's a bit smaller than I thought it would be. I think maybe the 3-blade design makes it feel smaller than other similar sized fans, and I like that.

Outstanding Value!!!
I needed to replace 8 fans that have deteriorated over the years. My criteria was they need to be contemporary, small motor and have LED lighting. I have a bunch of Haiku fans in another location so I am well versed on what a $1000 fan is. While these are definitely not of the quality of the Haiku fans they have a few things in common. They both have very small motors and they are both made of a composite plastic. The big difference is that the Haiku fans use a DC motor and it is virtually silent when on. The Minka is a standard AC fan motor (although very small) that has the typical buzzing sound when in use you would expect with a fan at this price point. This is not an issue for me but may be for others. The build quality on this fan is outstanding, all parts are very well finished and assemble easily. The LED on this fan is bright, very bright and has no trouble illuminating every room I have installed them in. The remote is a typical cheap remote you find in fans at this price but it works very well. The fan installed in about 10 minutes with one person. It is very lightweight and very easy to carry up a ladder alone. Bottom line despite cheap remote, a little buzz from the motor, this fan looks great, has an amazing LED light and installs easily. At this price point there is nothing better in my opinion and for these reasons I give it 5 stars. I am very happy with the purchase and would definitely recommend them.

Love this mid-century look fixture!
Beautiful fixture that goes great with my mid-century modern room! It was very difficult to find something with a true mid-century modern look and color - so I was so happy to find this one! I've had several people give positive comments on it - including the electrician that installed it. I didn't watch him install it, but he didn't mention any issues during the install, so I'm guessing it was simple enough to install. I believe I read that the blades are a composite material, but you would never know that to see it. It looks and feels just like wood - however, I am guessing if they used a laminate wood in time it would peel - so I'm actually happy it is not wood. I was going to give it 4 stars because of the light - but it is so nice, I decided that wasn't enough to drop it a star. The light works from a remote control (as does the speed of the fan). It is dimmable; my electrician must have put in an LED bulb [NOTE: based on other reviews, the bulb is already installed in the unit; I did not know that since I did not watch him install it. hmmm...I wonder how you replace the bulb when it goes out??] I think it is too bright white. When it burns out, I will see about getting a soft-white dimmable bulb instead. On its highest setting it is overpowering and difficult to even look at - even though the globe is frosted - it is like an intense spot light. For general use, the lowest setting is fine - which is similar to a 40 watt incandescent. There is a few moments of lag from the time you turn on the light switch until the light actually turns on. The fan speeds are fine - but there is a bit of a hum at the fastest speed. I use this in my office so I don't notice it - if it was in the bedroom it may be a different matter. The slow and medium settings are totally silent. I was concerned it might be a bit large for my 12x14 room, but it looks fine - now that I'm used to it. :-)

Nice, but you'll need a ladder twice a year.
This fan is pretty, it blows well, and it will run silently - except for the sound of the wind it makes at its highest speed. The Led light is attractive, effective, and dimmable. The whole fixture is not heavy and not too hard to install. However, the remote has no switch to reverse the blade direction. To change from winter to summer setting, one must climb a ladder and flick a switch on the fan itself. This fan is a bit expensive to lack a convenience that some other fans do have.

Love this fan.
This fan is the quietest and most energy efficient I have ever seen. It has plastic blades, because they weigh less (reduces unsprung weight, thus they can use a smaller motor and use less power) and are shaped in a way to maximize air movement. The blades feel strong to me, I bet I could break the wood blades on the old fan before these. The LED light is "only" 14 watts but it is BRIGHT and Minka-Aire adds a nice touch of a soft-on (in other words the light turns on to full over 2.5 seconds, so it's not an instant-on floodlight. The light is bright enough to be the only light in our big living room at night - it's that bright. The remote control looks nice and works well. The soft-touch gel controls feel better than the old Harbor eggshaped push button remotes of our last fan. Best feature: It's *quiet*. On high, you cannot hear this much at all. Our wood blade fan was loud enough (and would wiggle and shake the chains) so we'd have to turn the TV up. Now we are finding we're listening to the TV at low volume levels we've never used before. So this fan uses less power, moves more air, has a brighter energy-efficient light, and looks great. And our ears are thanking us. What's not to like? If silver's not your think, they have distressed Koa as well... My only complaint: the hood for the motor/main fan piece does not fit with the shortest downrod. The instructions actually say to not use the shroud when using the shorter downrod. That's fine, but now we have an exposed black motor on top of the silver blades. Tried to make it work with shorter downroad but couldn't fit it. Nitpick though.

Very stylish fan that generates significant air movement even on low setting
We installed 2 of these in our home when we remodeled this year. We are in a coastal community and this fan blends nicely with the tropical and coastal décor. Visitors have commented about the pleasing aesthetics of the fans. We typically run them on low setting, and even at that they generate more air movement than our prior flat blade fans did. The included light kit produces a fairly warm light, and is dimmable. In order to dim or brighten the light simply hold down one of the buttons on the remote control used to turn on and off the light. A short press on one of those buttons will turn on or off the light whereas a long press will dim or brighten it. Installation was a little different from our old ceiling fans. With these there is a remote control receiver that must be wired and then mounted within the fan bracket. We are operating these with the included remote controls. We ultimately installed 4 Minka Aire fans (the other 2 were a smaller version) and it was easy to set each remote control to operate its respective fan. If desired the remote control can be set to control multiple units, but of course that would make changing settings on just one more difficult. There are dip switches that can be used to make this setting, and included instructions then walk you through the final steps to get the receiver and remote control to communicate with one another. We are very pleased with the appearance and operation of these fans.

Buy 2, get one working unit
This is a story of a man named Brady….. Oh, yeah…. This is about the Minka-Aire 844. It is a story nonetheless and a review I wished I would have read and whether you choose to purchase or not, could save you a fair amount of frustration. The net of the story, we bought three fans and had to use two of the fans (boxes) to salvage enough parts to get one WORKING fan. If you need more and are interested in my mental pain and suffering, read on. I am sure you will find it amusing, at my expense of course. We ordered 3 fans. 3 separate rooms. We started by replacing the fan in my office. The directions are adequate and really, if you have hung fans before it is not that difficult. Usually a 30-40 minute job (provided you don’t need to add bracing) and you hit the switch and the glorious breeze and lighting kicks in. In our case, this was the expectation…. But, in our story, we hit the switch, the breaker popped and everything in my office shutdown (I should also mention in that process my computer shut down dirty and I need to reinstall the OS at a minimum). Bad cabling job you say? Rubbish, everything was in order and perfect as a warm and breezy night watching the sunset over the ocean. Hmmmm.. could it be the wiring or an old circuit breaker? Nah, this house is only 3 years old and the last CHEAP fan and light worked. Hmmmm.. There are 3 possibilities here. Wiring, faulty transmitter, short in the motor. Well. We bought three, lets start salvaging parts. Replaced the transmitter with the new transmitter from the second box.. Popped the circuit. OK, lets move on to the motor. How ‘bouts putting that second fan together? We already opened the box, right? Seat the new fan, wire in its transmitter and….. Light. Houston. We have light. But, the remote doesn’t work? Can’t be. Reading every google on the topic and finally giving in to calling support, they mentioned direct cabling the beast. Of course you wouldn’t be able to control fan speed or the lights, but it would rule out the transmitter. Well. I am too smart for that. I took the transmitter out of the box that shipped with the motor that had a short in it and wired that in. Hit the light switch and the skies parted with a beautiful rainbow washing away the storm that just swept through my office. Yep. Of the two boxes (fan kits) we opened, one contained a motor with a short and the other contained a faulty transmitter. That is several hours of my life I won’t get back and thankfully I didn’t call an electrician and pay their rate to tell me the same. Buy with caution. We are sending the 3rd box back that we purchased as well as the second box full with the faulty transmitter and the motor with a short. What about the one that I cobbled together to install? Why would I keep it? Well, this is the second fan bracket that has been drilled into these studs. I think it better to roll the dice, than to drill in a third. Net. If you decide to buy and go forward, please kindly remember this review to save yourself the frustration and maybe my abbreviated troubleshooting tips will help you. Quick update. The single fan that we kept does have a nice bright light and is quiet. It also produces an excellent amount of breeze, even on the lowest setting. I still will not change my rating due to the horrible QA that caused two separate boxes (fans) to both have faulty parts. Sad.

Very elegant and WORTH THE MONEY!!!
What a nice fan! Quiet and smooth with a nice remote and the light can go as bright as the sun! I used a 12" down rod and there is absolutely no wobble and it moves a lot of air. I weighed the fan blades on a scale for balance and they are exactly the same weight to the 0.01 gram! I have never seen this before for all the ceiling fans I have installed in my life (maybe 20). I would always have to add some weight to balance them to minimize wobble. Not my experience with this fan. I also installed the wall switch so make sure you read the instructions because you need to install the wireless receiver for the fan and the wall switch in series so be careful. You also need to copy the same DIP switch settings from the remote to the wall switch. Just make sure you read the instructions first for the fan electrical and the wall switch electrical before you start and you should be fine. The only complaint I have is the light flickers a little when the fan is on high. This is not a deal breaker for me as I rarely use the light but it is nice to have if needed. I would buy it again. In fact, I have already ordered a different Minka Aire model from the master bedroom.
