This product worked and was close to the original but not exact. I had to install upside down to get it to fit. It's a little weird opening my couch recliner the opposite way, but it works.

Followed some guidance by others and put the recliner on its side. Switching out the handle was fairly easy, and it seemed to work perfectly. About ten days later, I heard a snap, and sure enough, one of the little plastic pieces holding the cable to the handle had broken. I found a metal handle and that has been perfect.I’m not too sure why this failed so fast; the original part was plastic, too. But the new metal one is certainly the best option.

I was very upset when the cheap plastic handle used to activate the reclining mechanism on our expensive Ethan Allen recliner broke rendering the recliner portion of the chair useless. To be clear this part should not be plastic it should be steel or at the minimum aluminum. When the part broke I thought I would have to deal with Ethan Allen and pay way too much for the part assuming it was even available. I thought well, I might as well check Amazon and much to my pleasant surprise I saw what looked to be the part needed for under $15. A couple of days later the part arrived and within 15 minutes problem solved. I imagine this new (also plastic) handle will not last but for the cost I can deal with that. I was ready to ditch this chair and never buy another recliner (Lazyboy excepted) due to this problem. Amazon is awesome and truly made my life easier and saved me a ton of money in this case!

It was a nice surprise to locate the availability of these replacement recliner handles. Two wood screws hold the handle in place, so it is best to remove these first. I then rolled the sofa and had to cut the mesh bottom to gain access to the handle. The U-shaped clip is easy to remove with a small screwdriver and the cable must be slightly pulled to remove it from the handle. Make the new handle accepts the cable properly because there is a notch for the cable pin. The new U-bracket is identical to the original and there is a groove in the cable end that captures it. Reattach the screws until they flush w/ the handle surface.Two (2) of the replacement handles broke again after little use. I suspect there is a composition issue with the plastic material wherein it cannot take the stress of releasing the cable. There is nothing to bind the cable after reassembly and the replacement process is simple.The supplier is good about taking the defective handle back, but you must reorder a replacement. Overall, it is a good solution and beats the heck out of not having the reclining feature and/or buying a new sofa.
