Impressive sound. Good value.
Worked straight away out of the box. Impressive sound quality. I had not realised that it can do 5.1 as well as normal stereo output. Also good value compared with named brands.

For B&OTV without hdmi port
So happy, my ancient B&O TV without hdmi is usable again. I use DVI socket so needed this box for the sound. Works perfectly.

Good value
Purchased second hand to try. Extracts audio from hdmi and allows for a coaxial digital connection to a dac. Works ok.

PS3 problem solved
Worked perfectly for a specific problem I had, I’ll say what it was. I had a ps3 and had it hooked up to a monitor with no audio output or speakers (the ps3 doesn’t have one.) and this was the only way for me to get to listen to the game audio (instead of buying a pair of headphones that Sony no longer makes.) so if anybody else is in this super particular predicament then yeah I recommend you get one of these. Video quality remains mostly the same, however it requires you to sacrifice a usb port on the console just for it to power on, but I’m unsure about any changes to fps.

Might not work.
DOA, and I missed the 30 day return window. It wasn't the PSU checked and changed that. Be prepared for it not to work!

So why 3 Stars?
Great piece of kit: cheap (bought it at £19.99), tiny, and works… most of the time. So why 3 stars? Knock one star because this thing gets HOT. Let’s be honest: this will be on all the time as it is a thing that can forget once installed. There’s no off button, and it’s driven by USB. Great. But it gets hot, and hot enough to go “That’s actually really hot!”. Knock one more star due to it starting to stop working and flash all lights oddly. I believe this is just a matter of time. I have to reach around and unplug it, wait 30 seconds, and then plug it back in again. It usually stops working prior to usage, but it has twice stopped working during usage. So what do I use this for? Simple: because the Amazon 4K TV only supports one headset, and (when headset is connected along with a number of Samsung sound bars), it drops the sound connection meaning that the sound bar turns off: “you’ve no music going through, so I will turn off to save power”. This little device stops that from happening and allows my Bluetooth transceiver to pull audio off the HDMI cable without letting the Amazon 4K TV knowing. Works a treat… when fully working. Cost price: amazing Works for what I need it to do: absolutely Am I comfortable having it on all the time and working: not really

Bought for PS5
I have the Steel Series Arctic Wireless Pro headset which I use for both PC and PS4. I had the usb plugged into the PC and the optical cable in the PS4 so all I had to do was press the input button to swap between the 2, but with the PS5 not having an optical port, I had to start switching cables, which was a faff on, plus the unit would forget my mixamp settings everytime I unplugged it. I know this unit isn’t designed for games consoles so it’s not ideal as it only does up to 4K and 30fps but my gaming monitor is 1440p so my PS5 will only output 1080p. This unit will do 1080p 60fps so that’s fine. It all works as it should and the surround sound works fine in my headphones too. Volume is now very loud again, because plugging my headset into the PS5 directly via USB resulted in low sound and quality not as good. Very happy overall.

Sound purchase
Extracts the audio from the incoming hdmi signal. Works perfectly and still keeps the audio working on the outgoing hdmi signal.

Easy to split of audio of the HDMI connector
Does exactly what it's supposed to. In my case it was used as a audio splitter for my Grandma's TV so we could attach a separate headphones while still allowing the TV to control it's own volume. It was placed between a set-top box and the TV.

Buena calidad y compatibilidad

Works perfect but connect the the output HDMI after you pressed the button. red for 5.1ch.
Perfect! But take notice of our use case an save yourself some troubleshooting time : Thomson streaming box 240m was unable to provide 5.1 Ch sound via optical out to a Sony Bravia Theater 6 soundsystem while the HDMI provided video to a HD projector.... (Due to the HD projector negociating 2ch pcm was the max in channels). This audio extractor fixes this but took us some hours to figure out congestion from the beamer - Thomson box (like Chromecast) --} hdmi extractor --} optical to Sony home theater, HDMI to HD beamer. Usage: DONT connect the HDMI to HD projector yet! First turn on all devices, press the button on back of the audio extractor so it turns red (5.1ch.), NOW connect the HDMI out to the projector and audio should work fine on the Sony in 5.1 channels. Perfect solution.
