Q: when asking how much it holds no one says what size they have Lg or sm. I want to know if the small one will hold a 5lbs bag of floiur and or sugar?

This is why Amazon needs to sell the LOCK & LOCK Rice Food Storage Container With Flip-top lids 10K (HPL510) size! They hold a 20 lb bag of rice. These are great for smaller quantities of beans and grains 5 lbs tops, but the other is the one we all want because it's more versatile.

Not really , depends on size of the hand but for sure it fit a cup of one cup size easily. I used it for rice container and it is easy to take rice cup in and out.

Flip lid is about 8-1/2”w, 6-1/2” h Actual opening is about7-1/4x4-3/4 Edges are rounded. Flap opens straight up. I had no problem with measuring cup. Entire Top comes off totally of you need it, but for measuring, the lid is generous for my needs.

Q: which size would be recommended for a 4lb bag of dog food?

Without knowing more, that is a difficult question but I'll make an attempt... I have the LARGE size container. Dog food is less dense than a 5 lb bag of flour and I have experience a 5 lb bag of flour will fit in the LARGE size with about 1 to 1-1/2 inches of room to spare. Kinda like comparing the space taken up by 5 pounds of cleaning sponges vs. the volume taken up by a bag of flour. So, since the dog food is less dense it takes up more room than the same weight of flour. Without dumping my current LARGE size container of flour and put 4 lb of dog food kibbles in (I have big dogs), I'd gamble that the LARGE size will fit a 4 lb bag of dog food. If there was any left in the bag I'd think one or two feedings would take care of any left overs then toss the bag. If your buying bulk dog food at the store you could adjust the weight of your purchase when filling the bag. If you do buy the LARGE size container, tap the sides as you pour to help settle and compact the dog food. I had to do the same with sugar, flour, pasta etc., to get more to fit in the containers.
