Spiritual, Practical, Intellectual
This book is great because the advice is spiritual, practical and intellectual at the same time. It satisfies on many different levels at the same time.

Excellent writer
This book teaches you about looking at life beyond our conventional understanding about: birth, death, aging, emotions etc. I'm a spiritual person and live my life mindfully and with contentment. But I gained a deeper understanding about Buddhism and similar practices. It a good read for everyone.

Soothed my Difficulty with Grief
Thich Nhat Hanh's words about impermanence, and its application to death, and how we cope with death, were extremely helpful perspectives for me. I have been dealing with overwhelming emotions in the face of my loss of a loved one, and struggle with finding "purpose," or "comfort" in his death, as I am not religious. I would consider myself agnostic, leaning towards atheist, but lately am trying to open my mind to religion's teachings, even if I cannot get behind organized religion. This is why a non-theistic religion like Buddhism intrigues me, and as a beginner in the teachings, I find TNH's words simple, yet revolutionary. He writes in a way that makes you wonder how you could have overlooked such a simple way of looking at the world, and have over complicated it so often. The stories are pleasant and made me smile while reading them, the tangible tactics such as walking meditation are useful, and the words offered on enjoying life, are exactly what I needed to hear. Definitely worth picking up the hardcover, because I want to keep this book for a long time.

very well written
I really enjoyed this book, my first from this author. I felt like he was speaking directly to me and answering many questions I have. I found the concepts easy to understand as he presented them. Looking forward to reading more.

What do you really need?
A marvellous book that manages to be both re-affirming and challenging - 5 StarsAlthough I’ve read a good few books on Buddhist teachings and mindfulness over the years, this is the first I’ve read by Thich Nhat Hanh. I soon chose not to read it from cover-to-cover in one or two evenings as I’d planned, but read a chapter, or even just a section, on most days over an extended period. I think this approach worked better for me, and enabled me to gain more from it.The essential messages are simple (They always were!), but I’ve rarely encountered a book that has made me pay such close attention. One of the main reasons for that is ‘The Art of Living’ is very readable. It also, I have to say, succeeded in making me re-think my interpretation of some of the basic concepts behind Buddhist teachings. 'Emptiness' was, and still is, a real challenge!Uplifting, questioning, and reaffirming, this book had great relevance. No, I didn’t agree with every word, but then this is not about learning by rote, it’s very much a stimulus that’s pertinent to finding where you ‘fit’ as an individual and as a part of a greater whole…and, I guess that’s as blissfully variable as we all are.
