Great Horse Hair Brush
This is my first horse hair shaving brush.. and a great one at that! Its said that horse hair brush is the medium between badger and boar. I tend to disagree more than agree. For me, it's a choice unto itself. In any case, this is a great brush. The bristles are incredibly soft but nowhere near as thick as badger or boar. Which is to say that this bristles are more brittle in comparison. This is not meant to be a knock on the brush. Rather this means that you'll have to build your lather differently than those brushes (think painting rather than hard swirling). The heft of this brush is noticeably lighter than other brushes I own. I believe this is due to both the light weight of both the acrylic handle and the bristles. While the weight may take some time getting used to, the brush itself has great balance and builds a formidable lather. The smell was quite strong on first couple of shaves but will dissipate upon proper conditioning and continuing usage. The one worry I do have is regarding the bristles. While this brush has been very good with hair loss, I do wonder about long term use since the hair is more brittle than badger or boar. So far however, it has not been an issue. In fact, its slowly becoming my go to brush. At roughly 30 dollars, it's worth a shot.

Beautiful horsehair brush
This brush is definitely horsehair. I was comparing it to the Vie Long website, and it looked like a mix brush, but this is 100% horse hair. The handle is beautiful acrylic. The picture doesn't do it much justice. But the bottom half of the handle is clear with what looks like a white cloud or fog swirls. The upper half is a dark red blood like color. Sitting the brush upside down on a brush stand with the light shining on it really brings out the colors. tl, dr; the brush handle is pretty. The hair is horse hair, so there's not much else to say about that. It's soft like a badger and the bristles are strong like a boar. So the brush handles like a well broken in omega brush.I will dock my rating one star for the following:1.) the brush stinks. Stinks worse than a brand new boat brush. Maybe I've been spoiled by Simpsons and Semogue brushes. But this one stunk something mighty.2.) the bristles are brittle. I'm serious. If you hold the brush, it looks like a boar so you abuse it like one, then you'll have a bad time. The bristles are brittle and squishing the hairs like a boar and badger and the hairs will break. The brush demands a paint brush motion rather than swirling.

Small brush, but big lather
When I received it, I was surprised at how small the brush was. I complained that the original description failed to accurately describe the size of the brush. It appears that the description of the brush has been updated and now includes detailed dimensions. This was my first horsehair shave brush. It is softer than a boar brush and has more backbone than badger brushes. This makes it ideal for use with both hard soaps and soft creams. Although this is a small brush, it still creates a superb lather. I liked it so much in spite of its size that I ordered one of its larger siblings, the Vie Long 13071. Both are great brushes and both are attractive additions to my shave cabinet.

Vie-Long Special Horse Hair PB14080
This brush is beautiful, although mine isn't red on top. It's kind of a persimmon color, still nice actually. The bottom is clear acrylic with white swirled in, in my case, about 50% mix. It's on the smallish side, handle is 1.73" tall, 1.34" wide and the loft of the hair is 2.03". No noticeable odor upon receiving but haven't used it yet. Need to shampoo, rinse and dry a couple times before use. This is my first horsehair brush, this one is a 75th anniversary series and seems really soft but with a lot of backbone. Hoping and expecting this brush to be a good value with performance between badger and boar. Will update review after brush has been used enough to give proper critique. Just be aware of size and variation of color.

Falsely depicted and described
Not "colored" to look like badger hair as advertised. There is a statement I. The description that explains this is not the typical "special" mix of hair- and instead purely horse hair, but nothing to say it would be colored any differently. Not all that soft either- looks like boar hair. Hopefully seller will reach out to offer a credit or some other restitution for the false advertising. This thing is probably a knock off - beware

Good Quality Shave Brush
With some patience, you can build yourself a thick and rich lather (approx. 3 mins). Has good water retention and the feeling on the face as lather is being applied is very soft and nonabrasive. This brush seems to be a significant upgrade over my Vander Hagen boar brush. can't beat it for the price!
