Excellent!
I am a longtime aviation and history enthusiast and this book is a fascinating addition to my personal library. Other reviewers go into more depth, but I wanted to add my voice to those who recommend this book. I think you will be pleased reading it and then referring back from time to time for reference. Enjoy!

A Truly Technical Masterpiece Covering the Second World War's Aviation Masterpieces
Being a big fan of WWII aircraft, and in particular the F6F Hellcat, this impressive book looks at it and other excellent American fighters both before and during the war. Loaded with detailed charts and graphs comparing these fighters side by side, Dean does an excellent job detailing these high performance fighters from cover to cover. A full performance appraisal is offered, covering all the normal particulars one in this hobby would expect, as well as an indepth analysis of aerodynamics, weapons, handling qualities, along with highly technicalstructural information. A true gold minefor those who are passionate about military aircraft and especially AmericanWWII fighter planes. The price isn't cheap but neither is the quality and this rather large hardbound book is worth every penny of it!

THE definitive guide for WW2 American Fighter Planes
Spectacularly detailed book. My only gripe is that it cuts off on planes that saw combat, but doesn't really include production planes that weren't in battle before the war ended. For example it covers the P-51D, but not the ~500 or so P-51H's built and ready for the invasion of Japan (before the BOMBs were dropped).Almost wish for a "America's 100K Part 2: Get ready for a bigger kicking..."

Excellent book. While this is not a light read
Excellent book. While this is not a light read, there is a vast amount of information about the fighter aircraft produced by the U.S. in WWII, including each model & variations. Do not expect a definitive answer to the question of which was the best fighter. There is not much about British, Japanese, or German aircraft. Late model fighters that did not see action are not covered. However, this is the best book on America's fighter that I have seen.

The Definitive reference guide to US fighters of WW2
This is a definitive work about american fighters of WW2 in that it provides details and descriptions in the sections on development, chronologies, technical systems and detailed performance comparisons not seen in other works. This book is a 'must have' for any serious reader of WW2 american aircraft. Additionally, this compendium details both fighter history and aviation factors (i.e. linear acceleration, compressibility, stability and control, gun sighting and sights, etc.) and direct comparisons between the us planes with themselves and with other axis and allies aircraft. If I had to own just a single book about US fighters of WW2 -- this would be that book!!!

Fantastic!!
If you afford it, and have the strength to hold it, rush out and get a copy! Fantastic.. I purchase a lot of WWII aviation books, and just when you think you have the "definitive work" , out comes another one..I came across this by accident whilst browsing, and have to say it is a very, very, impressive production. My only word of caution is that this is clearly aimed at the knowledgeable enthusiast, not the beginner, so I wouldn't recommend you buy it for your 11 year old grandson for Christmas, but for your son....well, yes indeed.A "must" for any serious enthusiast of WWII USA fighter aircraft

Amazing book !
Seldom we see so much work and so much serious detail on a collection of aircraft types, namely WWII american fighters. The way the aircraft are analyzed , exposing in detail all the shortcomings, but also the strong points with lots of photographs and drawings is something I had not seen before although I buy and read at least for 50 years now all kinds of books on the aviation subjects.Definitely the best book I have seen for a long time dealing with analyzis of aircraft in depth.
