Just done this section of the Danube using this guide. To be honest one of my friends lead most of the way so I have only used the book on the odd occasion including one day where a mechanical failure meant I was playing catch up for a day and self navigating. I'm generally hopeless at following routes but managed fine with this book although the route itself is very well signposted. There's one hill that the author described as "a short 20% hill". One man's shorts is another's long, to my mind it was pretty much the same hill as Red Bank near Grasmere. Other than this the book was our main reference on route.

We used this to plan a family bike ride from Passau to Vienna. the book gave an excellent synopsis of the route and helped us choose our extra break nights. The route extends on both banks of the Danube for pretty much most of the way. There are different challenges and sights on either side. This book helped us avoid busy roads. It also highlighted places to detour to. With the help of this book we were able to plan pitstops for food and refreshments. There is apparently options to download route maps as GPX files with the code in the book. We didn't end up using them as I planned out our route in advance and loaded them on to the Garmin 820. Our family (including a 9 yr old on his bike and a 6 yr old on a tag along) thoroughly enjoyed the 7-day ride. This is the benchmark all future bike trips will be compared against. All thanks to the book. Highly recommended.

Looks the job with good maps and description, though won't be able to to check it out in action until October.
