Kenda K847 Kross + Wire Bead Bicycle Tire, Blackwall, 26-Inch x 1.95-Inch

Relatively quiet and secure handling on asphalt and dirt roads. Does not look like it s very puncture resistant, but for my riding it is probably plenty strong. Not as fast as a road slick tire, but faster than knobies. I had replaced my 26x2" Michellin off-road knobby tires with 26x1" road slicks (also Kenda) and the mountain bike was flying with them on the same rims as before. The 26x1.95" Kendas are not nearly as efficient and the bike's reflexes are more muted, but the ride off-road is better, which is what I needed for casual dirt road riding. I started with 55-60 psi pressure, but it seemed like an overkill and the ride was a bit harsher than ideal on rough surfaces, so I went down a few PSI for a more compliant ride. Even with my 185lb, it seems anything over 45-55PSI is an overkill and possibly only could be beneficial on very smooth roads to cover distance. On my road bike I like my 23mm tires at about 90PSI but here - much less is ideal. Google e article about the optimal pressure - it might give some insight why over inflation has no tangible benefits but decreases comfort significantly...

I ordered this to replace the tire on my mountain bike that I use 100% on the street. The original rear tire was worn out (not to mention the tube needed replacement, so I figured I'd try something that was a little more road oriented while replacing the tube. I received the tire, and must say it's an odd looking tire. It installed easily. I go for a daily 12 mile ride in the morning. Normally, it takes me around 50-52 minutes to do this trip on the standard knobby tires. This tire definitely rolls faster on the street (you can feel that it takes less energy to pedal faster). With having just replaced the rear tire, I managed my normal route in 45 minutes. I'd say that's a pretty good improvement. I will say that it does have a bit more of a "feel" of the road...the ride was a tad rougher than the knobby tire, but was still comfortable enough. I'm happy enough that I will buy this tire for the front when the tube on that tire requires replacement.

I bought this same tire 10 years ago and it has been a great tire. I recently wore a hole in the tire after a couple thousand miles. I switched brands and the new tires did not handle nearly as well so I was exited to find that this tire was still available on Amazon (Amazon is awesome!). I received the tires and noticed that the beads were not in great condition. One would not even seat on the rim. This is the first time I have had to return a product on Amazon and I must say, it was easier than if I had purchased it at a store. I had the replacement tire in two days. Great service. As for the quality of the tires, the side walls seemed thinner than the originals I had on the bike. Also, I ordered the same tires for my wife's bike from a bike dealer (Amazon did not carry her size) and they seem to be better quality. The sidewalls seemed sturdier and unlike my tires, hers had all the little rubber spikey things that you often see on new tires. Mine did not. So, makes me wonder whether this tire is manufactured in different places. Time will tell how well these hold up. As I stated, the first set lasted 10+ years. I have already put about 70 miles of asphalt and crushed limestone riding on the tires with speeds up to 30 mph and so far so good.

when we were living in the mojave i got a set of KENDA off road tires they served me well .when we moved to the gulf coast of mississippi i found myself on the road 90% of the time .if you ride on a regular basics you know tires can make or break your riding time .I started looking for a tire that would be good for the new terrain I would be on the next few years . cement , asphalt ,gravel , and sand .Oh also sand spurs . when i saw these kendas I looked at the worst reviews when I saw there was a problems with flats . I asked myself is this tire a dud or was it user error ?. well I'm going to say the later. when I put them on my front went flat ouch ! so after pulling the tire off I inspected the inner tube and found the hole . the old rim liner exposed a spoke nipple witch had a sharp edge . got new liners filed the spoke nipple , and I've been riding flat free since early June 2021 even going through sand spurs . no flats !

I bought these Kenda Kross tires as a result of the positive comments made by the other reviewers, here. I was not disappointed with my purchase. Before doing a review, I wanted to put these tires through two tests: distance and rain. I previously owned a 27" bicycle with 1-3/8" wide tires. I now have a heavier, steel, 26" bicycle. PROS: Sometimes I need to make a trip to a neighboring town, which took 1-1/4 hours with the 27" bicycle I used to own. Recently, I made the same trip with these Kenda Kross tires on my heavier 26" bicycle. No change in the time: 1-1/4 hours. The ride is just as smooth and easy. In the rain, I had to be very careful on the streets while riding my 27" bicycle. The tires were prone to slipping on smooth, rain-soaked roadway. With these Kenda Kross tires, I've not had this problem at all. These tires are great! CONS: Your friends will think your tires look strange. OTHER THOUGHTS: I cannot say how well these Kenda Kross tires hold up to riding over thorns and glass, and don't want to find out 10 miles from home. I'm using puncture-resisting tire liners, and inner tubes with double-rubber on the riding edge.

I use my circa 1998 Trek 820 mountain bike for urban commuting. When the original knobby tires wore thin, I wanted to put as much rubber as possible on the road and my local bike shop owner recommended the K847. Now I am on my second set of K847s. The K847 is thicker with a harder rubber compound than my original tires. The K847s don't "hard corner" as well as my original tires, but before they wear significantly the K847s are somewhat puncture-resistant. And the K847 is an adult's tire with a 65 psi pressure limit adequate to carry a 220 pound man who sometimes uses rear panniers. The K847 is significantly wider than my Weinmann 519 wheel rims, and when mounting or dismounting a wheel I must deflate completely the K847 in order to clear my MTB's relaxed brake shoes. When a deflated K847 stands on the floor, the K847's width and sidewall stiffness deforms the K847's wire bead away from the rim sidewall. Without care the K847's deformed wire bead might not clinch firmly the rim's sidewall during inflation; an immediate or short trip tube blowout can result. Turning the MTB upside down when initially inflating a K847 eliminates the sidewall deformation problem and the tube blowout potential problem.

Excellent tire for commute. I ride a 15km round trip bike to work each day and I got a flat on my schwalbe racing ralphs and decided on these as a replacement. These are easy in the hands since the tires are so l Smith so there's no vibration. They also can handle hard trails pretty well so I can still take short cuts in the woods. The roads are much easier now and I'm not as tired each day when I get home. The only minor drawback is a personal one. These are much harder tires compared to the last set. Granted these won't puncture as easily, but they are not as soft when coming off a curb or potholes. Still amazing and great for everyday riding and long commutes for a mountain bike.

ok, so here's what you need to know. 1. i would have rated it 5-star but i don't have any other tire like this to compare to. 2. quality seems a-ok, i just put them on today and rode 9mi. 3. if you have a mountain bike w/ full knobby tires and you do mostly hard surface riding, this tire makes a world of difference. any road or road-hybrid would be better than knobby, etc. 4. i went from knobby off-road tire to this and the ride is much smoother and quieter. however, you must keep in mind that w/ this tire there is much less rolling resistance. the less resistance there is the less energy you burn, hence you need to go further to burn off the same amount of calories. but that's ok because now you can bike further and see more.
