Hayward Super Pump InGround Pool Pump - 1 HP, Quieter Operation & Efficient

I have frequently bought Hayward clones and seem to always end up with Hayward in the end. As with every one of their products, I may not enjoy paying for them, but I’m always happy that I did. You see four speed settings in the picture, seems average. There are also 8 timer settings. This is exceptional. I bought a variable pump so that I could keep the water circulating without paying a fortune on my electric bill. The previous variable pumps didn’t run well at low speeds and one didn’t run at all within their claimed speed range. This pump does everything it claims to do. As far as being able to directly swap it out without modifying the plumbing, you can if you’re replacing another Hayward pump. Take this claim with a grain of salt no matter what pump you buy. It’s very quiet, but not silent. None are. This is better than average, especially at low speeds. I have 1 1/2” piping. I recommend setting the max speed at 3100 and running well below that. This is an issue with physics, not the pump. There is a part that you can buy for it to allow you to control the pump without climbing behind the piping. It is NOT included. I could never find a definitive answer to that question. I will buy it. This pump will last for years and is worth repairing as needed. It’s worth the investment if you want to go to a variable speed pump. I don’t think you’ll find a better pump. You can buy the cheap knockoffs, but you’ll be lucky to get a year out of them. There are others of similar quality (and similar price to match), but if you’re going to spend this much, it just makes sense to buy the one that is decidedly the best.

Well worth the price. I installed it about 6 months ago. Works like a charm. Also, love the ease of programming and it saves on the electricity bill. It’s quiet and efficient. My pool is about 19k-20k gallons, outdoors, in hot and humid Florida . 4 hours at 2800 RPM’s, and another 4 in the mid day at 3200 rpm is perfect.

This pool pump is garbage. It lasted one year and would not turn on. I contacted a pool specialist to find out why. It was an internal board issue. Then on top of that, Hayward products usually have a 3 year replacement for parts. Not this one, because of the letter W being on the product title. So beware of that letter “w” on the model number. That only gives a one year warranty. So I have purchased a pump for one year, especially when these are over a thousand dollars. Terrible business service.

This pump is easy to install for a DIYer. It took me about an hour. If this pump is programmed properly, it will more than pay for itself in electricity savings, in 5-7 years. Variable speed pumps cost more initially, but in time are worth the extra money compared to a single speed pump. So, if you can afford it, choose variable speed.

My husband and brother installed the pump. It wasn’t too difficult though they needed to adjust some of the fittings. The pump is very quiet and has been working great though the learning curve on the controls is tricky. Need to watch some YouTube tutorials on it. Great price.

The smart pump works great and is easy to configure

After 25 years going through several Hayward super pumps 1.5 hp - I bought the newer variable speed as a replacement this spring. It comes with 2" ports (with 1 1/2 " adapters) meaning it was not a simple "drop in" as claimed - and therefore I needed to create new piping. The required adapters - 2" to 1-1/2"- changed everything (as all the old piping would not match up exactly and I use unions which means everything ordinarily unscrews easily for quick replacement). Also this pump has timers built in - which admittedly is a plus - however somewhat difficult to learn the programming and finally - vacuuming is a big disappointment - NOT powerful enough even at top speed of 3450 rpms - takes longer than usual to vacuum my pool. I miss the vacuuming power of my old 1.5hp Superpump.
