I have bought both these and the cans. These packs require draining just a little of the juice. The cans have significantly more juice/water. To figure out best value I looked at total protein per packet and per can. Then Divided by the cost per can (or packet). (Ie if a can had 10 total grams of protein and cost $2, its 2/10 = .20 cents per gram of protein. And then bought which ever was cheaper per gram of protein vs using weight). Side note: I think the canned version actually tastes slightly better. Not sure if most people would tell the difference.

What is the shelf life of these chicken pouches?

I still have pouches that are almost 10 years old. I tested one out recently. No issues at all, but your luck may vary. Needless to say, these were in outdoor storage (but remained dry - from freezing to 115f). I wouldn't necessarily recommend 10 year shelf life, but I can attest to the fact I didn't get sick and the packaging was just as good as the day I got them in 2012. I did make sure to thoroughly heat it up to kill any germs that may have been there, but they passed the sniffer test and the taste test and the digestive test. I'd say these are good to go well beyond the printed date. I use them in my bug out bag.
