I'm so glad I found a source for alternative hair color root powder (I had been using a very DIY mix of eyeshadow). I bought the purple one. It looks just slightly darker when applied, but covers any thin spots and helps me feel more confident. Compared to other brand root powders, it does not stay as long (2 days maybe). I can go 3-4 days between washes, so while it fades or gets brushed out it doesn't go away completely. That might be different for lighter colors though. I love that it doesn't transfer to my hands, shirt, or pillows like other root powders. I use an dense, thick, short bristle concealer brush to apply and that works well for me. Pic shows wear one day after applying.

Buy it for the dark roots!
I have almost black hair naturally, and while this doesn’t completely change my natural root color, it dulls it out so it’s not as harsh looking. I would buy this over and over again despite the higher price!

Pro and Con Root Touch Up
5 Stars for the Color Match, 3 Stars for the Formula I really like this root touch-up powder because it has one of the darkest brown shades available, and it matches my hair color almost perfectly. I've had a very difficult time finding another brand that offers such a deep, cool-toned darkest brown color. My only complaint is that the powder is too loose and dusty. Every time I use it, fine powder falls onto my bathroom sink and countertop. On my white quartz countertop, the dark pigment can be difficult to clean if it isn't wiped up immediately. I wish the formula were more compact and firmly pressed to reduce the fallout. I have considered switching to Madison Reed's Root Touch Up because its pressed powder formula appears much cleaner and less messy. Unfortunately, their Dark Brown shade is too warm and looks reddish compared to my hair, and they don't offer a true darkest brown shade that matches my color. If the manufacturer could keep the same excellent darkest brown color but make the powder more compact like Madison Reed's formula, this would easily be my favorite root touch-up product. The color is excellent—I just hope the formula can be improved.

The Good News, The Bad News...
The good news is that stuff works amazingly well. It goes on quickly, easily and looks magnificently natural. The bad news is I immediately felt short of breath after applying. I checked out the ingredients, and they looked innocent enough - mica, iron oxides and zinc. However, as my shortness of breath persisted, I Googled the ingredients. Here's what Lord Google has to say: Repeated exposure to Iron Oxide fume or dust can cause pneumoconiosis (Siderosis) with cough, shortness of breath and changes on chest x-ray. AND Mica can affect you when breathed in. * Repeated high exposure to the dust can irritate the lungs and may cause lung scarring (fibrosis). This causes an abnormal chest x-ray, cough and shortness of breath.

Fragrance free and does not change how hair feels
I am highly sensitive to fragrances, but I wanted to be able to cover my grays. This works so well! The color I picked matched my hair exactly, and I love that my hair still feels the same, unlike another powder I tried, which made my hair feel kind of sticky and dry. That’s the best way I can describe it. I’ll be able to wash it out, without worrying about any fragrances touching my skin. And, for the people that commented about how it stains the scalp, you’re not supposed to let it touch the scalp. You should pull the hair up, away from the scalp, to avoid getting any on the scalp. Also, you only need a tiny bit, so you should be tapping the brush before you put it on.

Makes Hair Color Dull
The darkest brown was not very dark. It took away the shine in my hair and made it look dull. 2/17/26 Update: Because of my dissatisfaction the seller contacted me. They really listen to their customers comments and obviously strive for customer satisfaction. I'm impressed!

Best powder and a fair price
Researched multiple brands to help a friend whose hair was growing back post treatment. Too many brands had additives that made us shake our heads (no pun intended). Friend loves it. I started using it because there’s hardly anyone over 50 whose hair isn’t as thick as it once was. At least we can try to make it less obvious. Thanks to whoever created this product. I ended up buying a couple of colors for myself as well.
