Watercolor, Making Your Mark: Explore 55 Step-by-Step Painting Techniques

My wife likes Karlyn art work. However, Holman only had a few demonstration of the step by step process in the back. Most of the book was showing her paintings. I wife liked the book. I though that most of the paintings looked like they were using the same technique on different subjects. I like the Rooster painting, but not the others. My wife though that there were too many steps to teach students. I said that we could start doing one of her exercises and cut out steps and limit the number of colors to make it possible for a student to do it in one hour. We can also simplify the design to make the subject less complex. The general concept is okay. But, I like to see the materials listed at the beginning in a format that is easy to read. I found myself having to hunt around to find out what colors are used and what type of paper used.

This book is fabulous and even though I have been a pro artist for 30+ years, I still learned some new stuff that is quite cool. I did order a used book from TrnThePage but you would never of known it was used. It came to me like it had never even had a page turned in it or the book ever being opened. I have never ordered a used book before on Amazon, but after ordering from this seller I will definitely order from them again. Karlyn gives some excellent tips and tricks in this book with many examples fully explained. Awesome book and I really love it. Highly recommended even for the most experienced artist and for ones just starting out. It is also a great coffee table book. Highly recommended.

although the book content is great - the used and in good condition wasn't exactly true. the front rod the book looked great but concealed the water damage in the book - many of the pages were stuck together. since it was bought as a gift i was embarrassed to have gotten a book in such bad condition

I love Karlyn Holman, she is so knowledgable about watercolor painting, collage and stenciling. I keep her books out all the time because they are so informative to the techniques she uses. I use them as a reference when I am doing a painting, to make sure I am doing a technique the right way.There are lots and lots of pictures in her books that shows the techniques step by step.I have watched her videos on artistnetworktv she has 14 videos on the website and its really amazing watching her paint and also very interesting too.

Absolutely beautiful pictures. The book gives some great tips for everyone with new ideas to try with mixed media as well as watercolors. However, I strongly recommend purchasing the DVD directly from the author as a supplement to really gain the knowledge of how to paint her style for these paintings. The book doesn't really go into the detail of blending colors and choosing colors and other things that are of great value on the DVD. Both are the best investment I have made to advance my abilities with watercolor as well as venturing into the world of mixed media.

This is the second book of Karlyn Holman I've purchased. The book contains many creative ideas for techniques and uses various papers and paints to achieve a unique look to your finished painting.

Lots of great ideas. I can't wait to try some of the more unusual ones--have just gotten supplies from Amazon--right after Thanksgiving...

And this one is particularly good...since there is no way to get to a teacher I consider I have the best of teachers through Amazon....and I especially am enjoying this "teacher" And am glad I found it! thanks Amazon!

I purchased this book about painting with watercolours for a dear friend. She was thrilled when she received it and it is now giving her hours of pleasure .She tells me it is a lovely book and such a surprise that I was able to find a copy. The writer, Karlyn Holman, died fairly recently, so there will be no more books of this nature, which makes it extra special. I am so glad that I was able to track it down Amazon.

I bought this book as a Christmas gift for myself from my sister who never knows what to buy me.I have a couple of Karlyn's DVDs and enjoyed them so much that I thought I would like her book as well so I know I will enjoy it.I have been a good girl and refrained from looking through it but I know it will be a great book as her DVD was with techniques I have never heard of.Just wish I was able to do one of Karlyn's workshops.

Very informative book.especially enjoyed the back lit landscapes demonstation. I painted two different versions and they turned out great. Very interested in ms. Holmans work. Very talented artist.

This was a library book I kept renewing until I ran out of options. It is not for the absolute beginner, but gives you something to explore as you start to master this medium.
