Great book looking forward to reading this series
This book is quite unique and is not like the typical storylines that you even read and but it’s very engaging and after reading this book, I am going to read probably the next three or four books in the series again a very nice book recommended highly

Not what I expected
When I started reading this I wasn't sure what I was getting into. I had assumed that it was a fantasy novel with mythical beings and magic. Well, I learned that I was partially correct. The flashbacks to epic battles made me think of fantasy genre battles, but the main setting of the book gradually alluded to a post apocalyptic world. This story is a blend of fantasy and dystopia while being staged in a town that reminded me of the movie The Village. The blend of using modified words like "morta" for a rifle caught me off guard because I was wondering if it was a typographical error. Dog type creatures were "canine" but a horse was called "slep", this back and forth terminology caught me guard and made it difficult to follow the story line. Also, the creatures were briefly described which adds to the confusion of what the creatures are. I still am unsure what a "whist" or a "frek" is, other than they are a type of critter.Overall the storyline itself was well conceived. There were some spots where I just wanted to walk away from the book and I will admit that it was difficult for me to really get into the story at the beginning. I stuck with it though and where the characters are fairly well developed, there seemed to be intentional gaps in their development to add to the story's "unknown-feeling" mystique.I was surprised that it took Vega so long to leave the town, I had expected this book to encompass her travels into the Quag but staying in the town helped build the mystery that Vega is seeking to find answers to.I am looking forward to reading the next book to see how it all turns out.

5 stars for great reader (audible version)
5 stars for great reader (audible version).3 starts for writing. there could be an interesting idea in this series, but the questions i had at the beginning of the book, i had them at the end. book felt more like a first chapter. the first book in a trilogy can leave much to be told, but should answer at least some of the questions raised.the book moves well, but... minus one star for overdone repetition. main character sees the most scary thing, three pages later main character sees something even more scary than the thing three pages before, repeat cycle after another three pages. how many things can be more scary than the one before it?

A Whole New World!
Having read much from Baldacci's "adult" books, I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. It started sort of slow and simple then progressed to an excellent story. Fantasy is not usually my thing, but this book is awesome.Of course, you'll have to keep that in mind when reading this.I am hooked and will read the next book in series to see if it gets better.I am thinking and hoping that turns into a yes.Enjoy!

Good enough to read to the end
I am a fantasy and SciFi fan so this genre is part of my library. I like David Baldacci a lot. He is one of our favorite authors and we have nearly all of his books in hardcover, as is our want to do for all our favorite authors. I bought this bood to read before giving the series to my grandaughter for her library. Vega Jane is a character who actually resembles my oldest grandaughter both in personality and attitude, as well as physically. She is intelligent, stubborn, recalcitrant and definitely a risk taker. She is also rather obstinate and will argue with a fence post. She is in fairly good shape physically and can take a hit but not go down for the count. I admire the tough mindset and the ability to concentrate on the issue at hand while planning for the next move. The plot is nothing new but the selection of the "challenges" as represented by the odd but deadly animals/monsters and the implacable human foes is well done. Although written for younger minds, I find this series to be enjoyable even at my advanced age. "The Finisher" is a good read.

great start to a series
this book really has perked my interest into what will happen next. good to have a character that I really want to root for. also really good to have a fantasy hero that is a go-getter. always helps to have a dog as an important character

Mysteries, plot and dialogues make it worth every SLIVER.
Bought the book just because it was by Mr. Baldacci and it lived up to my expectations. It sure has some new terms but they won't mess up with your reading if you have made your mind about entering a whole new world. Number of mysteries will be unraveled as u proceed. Some predictable and some not. What kept me glued to this book was― Vega Jane. Her sarcastic, kickass and snarky dialogues keep making me smile. If you have penchant for strong female characters go for it now.

Unterhaltsam und spannend
Nach einer kurzen Phase in der man sich an die Sprache gewöhnen und die Umgebung kennenlernen musste wurde die Geschichte spannend.

Vega Jane a Heroine in the making.
If your looking for a King and Maxwell or the Camel Club then you will be disappointed. However, if your looking for a Heroine to surpass all others then this is the book for you. If your 10 years old or 100 years old and have an imagination and a dream to find a world within our world and outside of it then you will love this book. If someone had said that Tolkien was the author I could not have wished for a better page turner than this.I have read all of David's books but it's been a long time since I have unable to close a book and leave it for a day or two before going back to it. This book never left my hands until it was finished. Although the storyline developed into an amazing climax we have been left with a cliffhanger so that we want to beg David for more.If you don't enjoy this book then you have no heart, no imagination and no dream for a better world to live in.

David Baldacci aurait-il un homonyme ?
I just finished this book...A strange one, could have been written by one of my kids. No real story, not a clue as to were it leads us, an end which is not an end. What kind of a book is that ? I will never by another kindle without reading the comments first. I got to the end , but it was really more to see if there was something there. Alas, there wasn't. I hope the author will be back with his usual genius for the next books. I can only imagine how hard it is to write and to keep the reader enthralled. But don't get published if you are just writing trash like this. Waste of time and money for us. If it's a satisfaction to you, Mr Baldacci, well, have fun, but I won't risk reading you again soon
