Are they sweet or I need to add sugar?

Not sweet, but almost bitter. I actually loved the taste, but I hate sugar and sweet tasting stuff. Drawback is that 2 lbs exceed 6000 calories.

Can these be ground and brewed in a coffee maker as a coffee substitute?

Yes, i roast them in my air fryer at 360 degrees for 8 minutes. Let them cool for about 30 minutes, then grind one grinder full of roasted beans, but 1/3 capacity at a time because the cacao are more difficult to grind than coffee beans.... Be careful not to burn-out or overload your bean grinder. Then, that amount of ground beans only makes 30 ounces of realy good, rich, brew.( 3 - 10 ounce mugs). You can then reuse the grounds to get a less potent, but. Good brew by stirring the used grounds in the drip filter then only adding 2 mugs of water.... Enjoy!
