Concise with great implementable ideas
I love this book. It provides clear examples that will be easily implemented. A great perspective on how to provide more children "number sense". Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to try them that would be the proof in the pudding.

In my twenty plus years as an educator have never seen anything that empowers students like these routines
Powerful strategies for building number sense and mental math fluency for students. In my twenty plus years as an educator have never seen anything that empowers students like these routines. Extremely useful for getting this practice up and running in your classroom. I have had opportunities to see this work in classrooms from third to high school (in both core instruction and within interventions) and will be using it with K-2 students this summer.

READ IT NOW!
I am an Instructional Mathematics Coach and this book really hammers home the idea that students need numeracy routines in their mathematics education in order to build number sense and mental math fluency. This is a great book for primary grades 1-3 as it gives many useful strategies that can be implemented into classrooms right away. I would highly recommend this book as part of a PLC or book study.

The content of the book is great
I like this book and I can't wait until Monday morning when I will start putting Number Talks into my Math warmup time!I was a little disconcerted, though. I'm sure I bought a new book, but this one is used. There are passages underlined and parts circled. It isn't horrible, but during COVID times, when I buy something new, it is bc I want to be sure no one else has leafed through while they are eating, sneezing or coughing.

A must-read for all math teachers to hone our craft
I teach high school math in a resource room setting. Most of my students are learning disabled in math enough so that they are not successful in co-taught math (with regular education and special education teachers). - - - This book shows me the experiences my students have not had, even with me. I'm so excited to start Number Talks for 15 minutes of the 90 minute classes. Most of my students have not memorized facts or they're all jumbled. On the ACT/SAT or other college entrance tests, there isn't an option (accommodation) for a calculator. Therefore, it will be essential to puzzle out solutions that accurately calculate problems! To discuss various ways we solve algebra equations.

Book is great, but Amazon needs to stop advertising with Breitbart
I'm a math interventionist at the middle/high school level and this book is quite useful. I want to add that I'm not buying any more books from Amazon until they stop advertising on Breitbart sites, which spread hate and misinformation, and helped get us into the political quagmire we currently face as a nation.

Great for fostering understanding
I've always appreciated lower grade teachers using Number Talks with their math students. I had trouble modifying Number Talks to what my sixth graders were learning. I'm really excited to implement this with my students this year. I anticipate it helping my students make sense of number operations, mathematical properties, magnitude, reasonableness, and improving their ability to communicate mathematically.

Great resource for experienced math teachers looking to deepen students' understanding of numeracy
been teaching math for 10 years. this book expands on the need to give my students numeracy routines and fits in perfectly along the lines of number strings, jo boaler, and building numeracy. I easily connected with the sections that go over challenges in the classroom when implementing Number Talks and lots of practical teacher moves to use.

Must read for Math Teachers
This book outlines how to do number talks and has changed the way I would approach teaching addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to my students. It’s easy to read and has a lot of helpful examples.
