Pachmayr S&W Grips for K and L Frame Round Butt Black (03266)

I love this grip! I purchased one back in 1989 and loved it! I was on the hunt for another one and found it. It's made for K and J frames. The box had an extra little pin with it, I was alittle confused with that and it was larger than the one in the frame, so i'm assuming it was for the J frame? Great grip, one of my favorites! Less recoil on my S&W 357. Feels great on my hand.

Fits perfect, takes the sting out of full 357 loads

Exactly what I was looking for to go on my new S&W Model 10 round butt. I used the tool included to slip the grip on and tapped it twice with a rubber mallet and it settled snugly into place.

Bought it for my k frame smith model 10. The grips are gigantic, extremely smelly for some reason, and didn’t fit very well/decent size gap between the two halves that wouldn’t shut. If you have gigantic hands, no sense of smell, and you don’t mind the grips not fitting together in the front, you’ll be good. I ended up throwing them in the trash. Live and learn.

I have purchased Pachmayer grips decades ago for my other revolvers and the fit and feel are perfect. The older grips are hollowed out and slip on. The new versions are a split design and take some additional work to clean up the excess rubber from the molding process and require heating and forming the grips to conform to the revolver frame closing the gaps at the finger grooves and butt. Not a fan of the split design but the fit and feel in the hand are the best.

This is a great grip, Pachmayr could use a better quality control, the cut and fit isn’t great. Small gaps everywhere, but they work well for shooting.

Strange that the L-frame (586, 686, 686+, etc.) has been around for a couple of decades, and yet there's only like two options out there for rubber grips that cover the backstrap and actually help with recoil: these, or the Pachmayr Diamond Pro grips. (Seriously, Hogue, what gives? Why do ALL of your grips leave the backstrap exposed on these models?) Unlike the Diamond Pro grips, these DO NOT require you to hammer out the grip locator pin at the base of the grip frame. Just remove the screw for your factory grips, pull 'em off, slip on this new one, and tighten down the screw. Simple, right? Well ... it's ALMOST that simple. The problem with these is that they're so squishy, without any kind of stiff nylon or polymer inner structure (which Hogue grips usually have), that the screw just wants to pull right on through without really pulling the two halves of the grip together adequately. If you tighten it too much, the grip screw will actually pull right on through the grip and/or cause the head of the screw to stick way out on the other side. My remedy? I just took a teeny-tiny little washer from the hardware store (you could also use a tiny rubber O-ring) and slipped it onto the screw to act as a spacer before tightening it down. This made the screw actually pull the grip together more securely and completely, without sticking out of the other side. Now it feels snug and secure. GOOD: Affordable, relatively easy to install, and they are AWESOME at absorbing recoil. Seriously, these make stout .410 loads from my Governor and hand-cannon .357 loads from my 686+ actually feel FUN to shoot, instead of being an exercise in masochistic endurance. The grip feels very secure in-hand (once properly mounted and tightened down with the aforementioned screw "spacer"), and there is plenty of clearance still for using HKS speedloaders. BAD: The fitment is totally bleh (huge gap between the grip and trigger guard), these things are pretty ugly, and they add a lot of girth/thickness over the factory grips, although they're about the same length. Because I'm weird and love to modify stuff, I took a Dremel with a sanding drum and buzzed off the "seams" from the molding process along the front and back edges on both of the grips that I ordered, and I completely buzzed off the checkered texture on one grip so that it wouldn't irritate my skin when I use that revolver (Governor) for concealed carry. If you want a comfy grip and don't want to mess with hammering out pins from frames and you're not worried about how it looks or how well it conceals, well, then these are darn near perfect. However, if Hogue or anyone else made a Bantam-style grip for K- and L-framed revolvers that actually covered the backstrap completely, then I would probably install those immediately and toss these in the trash without looking back.
