Great ladder - but practice with it, it's fiddly!
This improves on standard rope ladder in several ways I'll explain. Great ladder - but! The manual says that once the ladder is deployed it cannot be used again. I say that's hogwash! For younger kids there is a lot of complexity to getting this ladder out the window (even getting the screen busted out or cut - which we didn't practice) is hard. The design is excellent - but the hooks pivot/bend in them middle AND swivel - and the little feet on the back of the aluminum treads catch the window frame. It takes PRACTICE to know what you're doing! I had my 7 year old do it 3 times, and got down to 45 seconds to deployment (not counting clearing the dresser), and my 5 year old (strong and confident and smart) took a great deal of practice and teaching and on his third try got it down to 1min. It's no joke, PLEASE practice with this thing. I can imagine children failing to deploy this, or losing the whole thing put the window while trying. (even if you never use it, it's good mindset and activity for the family. It took an hour.) The manual says it is single-use because the rope is folded in between the treads in a certain way. It's not magic or hard. It's not easy either, but any adult can put it away properly after use. First we explained deployment and circumstances of when we would use the ladder. (probably never will, but there's only 1 exit from their roon, of course.) then we had them practice climbing UP to their room. This was a hoot, and all the eligible kids participated - but rope ladders are pretty tricky until you get the hang of it. HIGHLY recommended you have kids do this before it's the real thing. One of the boys was really intimidated and moving his body wrong - he got tired and wanted to quit. We stuck to it, they got it, then it was fun. Really glad there wasn't a fire. At the moment ;). I got this because the previous ladder was round fiberglass steps. The fiberglass gives you slivers, the steps SPUN under your feet, round steps lay flat against the house and making it very difficult to get a purchase with your feet. Not to mention there was no anchor - so I had a large dowel through the eyes at the top of the ladder. It worked, but not like this ladder. This has hooks inside that hold very well, and on the outside that hold the ladder away from the house (key factor), and act like pool ladder handles. The treads and rope are light, and they have good structure for the foot and little braces that hold the tread away from the house. This is key! Ladder held 200 pounds just fine. (rated for 1000 - it will hold you.) It swings less than the other ladder, but the treads can tilt. Climbing tips: Keep your weight (esp your butt) near the ladder, and use legs to push rather than arms to pull. It feels safe to get your head over your hands, but reach hands up and holding/pulling above your head - it really helps keep your weight near the ladder. Keep your toes up against the building and that keeps you solid and steady. Deployment tips: practice! These hooks and ladder are FIDDLY to get out the window. Get the steps out the window, then get the hooks established (outside/red ones first). For kids, DON'T shove it all the way out! First pull the velcro deployment tab. They CAN reach it, but it's far down there and once the hooks are in place I don't think an adult could reach it. If this helps, please click that helpful button.

Fire escape ladder
I live in an upstairs condo so this is perfect for me. It is compact enough to store under my bed or in the closet and seems to be well made. I hope I never need it but it does give peace of mind knowing it is here.

It’s good don’t listen to the negative reviews.
I never write reviews but I don’t want people to die because they don’t have a ladder. Negative review number one. It’s impossible to put the ladder back together once you open it. Total bull crap. My wife and me put the ladder back together exactly like it came in 45 seconds. You can do it too it’s not a Rubiks cube it’s very simple. Negative review number two. You can only use the latter one time. Total bull crap. The company states that because of lawyers from New York that don’t want The company to be sued by other lawyers. This ladder has 1 inch webbing. 1 inch webbing is super strong. You should be able to practice with this ladder hundreds of times. Of course you need to inspect the webbing on the ladder like you do a safety harness. If you don’t see rotting or cuts you’re good to go just use common sense you can do this. Don’t keep your ladder in the box. Have it by the window ready to go. You won’t have time to screw with a box in a fire, do all of your practicing under stress play really loud and heavy metal music do push-ups get your heart rate up. Light a smoke bomb in your house do whatever. Make your practice as real as possible I hope your family lives by the ladder.

Safety First Class
The fire escape upstairs ladder is an absolute must-have for safety, and I couldn't be more satisfied with my purchase. It's well-constructed and feels incredibly sturdy, giving me peace of mind knowing it's there in case of an emergency. The ladder is compact and easy to store, but when needed, it deploys quickly and efficiently, making it simple to use even in high-stress situations. One thing I really appreciate is how well-designed the hooks are—they securely attach to the windowsill, providing a stable escape route. The ladder rungs are also slip-resistant, which adds an extra layer of safety when climbing down. Overall, this fire escape ladder is an essential safety tool that I hope I never have to use, but I'm glad to have it on hand. Highly recommended—5 stars!

Great price for a product that will definitely work if needed.
I paid about $22 on sale for this and am very pleased with the product. It is lightweight and plenty sturdy enough. I took it out of the box to try it myself before giving it as a Christmas gift. My bedroom is on the second floor. I actually took the ladder out of the box, read the 1, 2, 3 instructions in 10 seconds. Took the screen off my window, opened the window, hooked the ladder on as per the visual instructions right on the ladder, then simply released the velcro and the ladder fell to the ground. There was quite a bit extra ladder even though it says it's for a 2 story. I have no doubt my grand children will be able to use this if an emergency would ever come up. I'll be sure to offer my son and daughter-in-law the opportunity to let the 5 and 8 year old practice putting it on the window so they know what to do in case of an emergency. Then I plan to take them outside and practice climbing up a few of the ladder rungs.....just to get a feel for it. We will NOT be doing this in the site of the 4 year old. They have a hall closet where this can be stored. I had no expectations this would operate as a regular ladder - it is an emergency ladder and should not be used for the types of things you need a regular ladder for. This could easily be kept in a dresser drawer. It is commpact and very lightweight (aluminum).

Important Safety Item That Brings Peace of Mind
This is one of those products you hope you never need, but it feels very good to have. The ladder seems well made, sturdy, and designed with safety in mind. I like the anti-slip rungs, which seem like an important feature for better footing. It also stores compactly, so it can be kept nearby without taking up much space. The setup looks straightforward, and it gives extra peace of mind for a multi-story home. For emergency preparedness, it feels like a smart thing to have in place. Overall, this is a solid safety item that is worth having just for the peace of mind alone.

Surprisingly great gift!
I bought one of these for my son who has a 3-story condo, with the bedrooms on the top and my daughter and her family that includes small grandbabies, who have a house with all the bedrooms on the second floor. In both cases, the kids had one staircase down that went right past the kitchens. If a fire were to start downstairs in the kitchen or possibly a Christmas tree or electrical socket, they would have no other way down. I thought I might get an "Oh, Mom..." reaction when I gave it to them for one of their Christmas presents, but I was surprised when both families said, "Oh, great idea! I've thought about this and wondered what I'd do if there was a fire and I was upstairs in bed!" So be kind and be smart ... give this gift to your kids if you love them or buy it for your own family and make sure you have a way out if you have a 2-story home. (note: my son wasn't sure if this would drop him all the way down, as his bedroom is 3 stories up, but he saw 2 options 2) that it would allow him to escape from the guest bedroom upstairs to a patio 2 story below or in an emergency he could climb down from his master bedroom and then hang on and drop the rest of the way (he's 6'4") to the ground. He said that even having to drop 8' or so is a lot better than being caught on the 3rd floor unable to escape! Good philosophy!

Great idea
This is a great safety item to have in case of an emergency and you can’t get downstairs because of a fire. I did not take it out of the box otherwise I won’t be able to put it back in, but I took a peek and it looks very sturdy and it’s made well. I think everyone should have one!

was happy to find this product
Have often worried about living on the third floor in apartment with only one way out except for jumping off balcony! This fits well over the balcony wall and though quite narrow looks a lot more sturdy than my husbands home made one! Think in a panic situation it is simple enough to cope with. It is heavy but not unacceptably so. If it hadn't looked good quality I wouldn't have carried it thousands of miles onan airline! Worth it for peace of mind.
