You will like these jars. The glass is not thin. The jars have a nice weight to them. They seal excellent. As forthe dimensions, 2.5 inch at the base. The neck is 2.0 inch. and the cap is 2.25 inch at the top. 2.68 inch tall.They are well made jars.

Almost hate to ask BUT anyone know is the plastic part of the lid BPA free?

NEW INFORMATION.I wrote directly to Libbey Glass and asked the question. Here is the response I got pasted from their reply:"Thank you for contacting Libbey glass. The material is BPA free. It is a polyethylene material."I can believe this; the material behaves like polyethylene of which there are many versions, and polyethylene is used in many medical implanted devices as well as a great deal of hospital equipment, e.g. IV bags and tubes and also in public water supplies. It's okay.This is my previous comment: The plastic parts are definitely NOT silicone. I've not yet been able to determine for certain what they are.I'm intrigued by Erika's comment suggesting there are two versions of the jar, one of which may have a silicone seal. The ones I received from Amazon do not have silicone seals, but polyethylene is perfectly safe in my opinion.

OK, so it's a year-old question, but for the sake of anyone else wondering, they do fit fairly well - I bought 3 of the 3-tier 1812 racks and as B Ward said, you'll only get 4 jars to a row, but they will go in.  There is a slight squeeze to get them in past the top rail in each row and they won't sit perfectly flat (they'll tilt back slightly), as the bottom of each jar won't fit past the lower rail in each row once they're in, but I like them that way just fine.  I find the middle two jars easier to get in & out, as the front rail flexes ever so slightly.

I would say yes it is.  The lid has a rubber gasket that would make it airtight, but I'm not sure to what degree.
