Better than expected
I think it is fair to say this is one of the best wireless speakers out there in the lower price range. It works on either AC power or 4 "AA" batteries and either way it sounds quite nice. It is a fairly heavy and solid unit, with an upright structure that is taller than it is fat, which is nice for desktops and countertops. It is compact, but not particularly small (some of the lower cost units out there are not much bigger than a soft drink can, but this is more like a two-slice toaster, though not as fat). The knob works well (better than buttons) and looks really good. But the keys to any Bluetooth speaker are how easily it connects to your device, and how well it produces sound. I found connectivity to be super easy and once set for your device, you just turn it on and it does the rest within a few seconds. The sound is full and robust. Anyone who might complain about the sound probably has one of two issues working against them - unrealistic expectations (this is not a 500-watt home stereo system) or improper tone settings on their source device (probably a smartphone). Though your device, you want to play with bass, midrange, and treble settings to find a match between this speaker and your tastes. On my device, I could play with a full equalizer screen and I got a sound that gives full, rich tones without getting muddy until you turn the speaker up too much. You can't really turn the knob more than about 2/3 of the way without some distortion if you have the volume setting of your phone or music device set to nearly full (which is what the manufacturer recommends). The nice thing is that you can then adjust total system volume from your phone or the speaker. In summary, I was impressed enough with one of these that I bought another and I find them easy and pleasing to use in my office and in my kitchen. Want to fill a large room with full sound? Then you will need something more powerful.

Owned for over 4 Years.....One comment: Junky Bluetooth
To be honest, I should've thrown this speaker out a few years ago. The problem is that you hate spending money on something and then throwing it out right away. The speaker basically ended up in a box somewhere. We recently moved and I came across it. I couldn't remember what exactly was the problem. Now I'm reminded. This speaker consistently has a static issue, as if it's loosing the Bluetooth connection briefly. Also, I remembered a couple years ago this speaker having problems connecting sometimes. There you have it. Maybe we got a bad one, but I sure wouldn't buy again, not for this price. I recommend against buying this speaker. It's a shame, the sound is pretty decent. Peace.

OK, I guess. Not exceptional in any way except battery life
If you just want to watch Netflix on your laptop with a better sound than the built-in speakers, then this will work for you. You won't be overly impressed with clarity, high/low balance, or stereo separation, but I think on average it is satisfactory. This would also be a good choice (in wired mode) for a portable presentation speaker in those small conference rooms with 15-20 people. Certainly loud enough to get heard, and with decent enough quality for clarity in that range of use. I wouldn't depend on the bluetooth hookup in that setting unless you're ok with the embarrassing moment where you have to troubleshoot your sound in the middle of a presentation.Choppy bluetooth connectivity with a Macbook Pro, took a little troubleshooting, but now it seems to hold the audio OK most of the time. Sometimes it drops the connection still, which is annoying. With a 3.5mm patch cable, it works 100%.Battery life is superb, probably the best thing about it.

Works well so far....
This review is for Memorex wireless Bluetooth speaker. This unit uses four aa's if not on the AC adapter it comes with. Auto shut off feature when not in use, fairly quickly locates signal and provides a quality midrange sound. I use the microphone to answer calls while at my desk and the speaker to listen to music. If your looking for a take along speaker to listen to music at high volume this is NOT suitable. In a small room its good for a speakerphone and to listen to audiobooks or mp3's. The large knob is a volume on/off switch. However you can plug it into a stereo with a patch cord and turn your home stereo into a Bluetooth receiver. A decent product for the price (bought on sale).

Meh
Good sounding but not worth the price. The Bluetooth is super useful but it cuts out when I walk into the other room with my phone or if my phone is under a blanket. Stupid.
