Product Description A revolutionary new album, the title suggests Becca's untamable musical spirit & style that blurs boundaries between rock, pop, jazz and folk. Her most personally-charged songwriting and her most urgent, impassioned multi-octave range singing to date, along with vivid, adventurous arrangements that show off her fiercely expressive guitar work, the album includes unique takes on hits by Frank Ocean, Usher and Steve Winwood. Review At times resembling a more folk-tinged St. Vincent, Stevens offers richly twisted originals alongside covers of Frank Ocean, Usher and Steve Winwood. --Los Angeles TimesHer songwriting, voice, and lyrics are like a cool bubbling brook freshening the brine of all the music you ve ever heard. --Esperanza SpaldingGreat arrangements. Deeply compelling songs. Could she be the new Joni? That's the well from which she springs. --San Jose Mercury News

Killer Album, but fewer covers please
This band is really talented, and in ways you don't see everyday. Influences I hear include a mashup of Joni Mitchell (in her experimental vein), Yes (lots of Yes), and even occasionally the Doors, all packaged in a suitably indie band sound. It's mesmerizing, and it takes a lot to mesmerize me. The big surprise was the quality of their (her?) compositions and arrangements, which are complex and interesting. The only reason I didn't give five stars is because they included too many covers of other songs. They don't need to do covers (although I really liked "Higher Love"). Their own stuff is compelling -- and boy does it sound hard to perform.

An innovative voice in a crowd of copy cats
Like another reviewer the NPR interview with Becca Stevens inspired me to purchase the CD. I like it and look forward to her next recording. Becca is an innovative voice in a crowd of copy cats. The evolution of her work reminds me a bit of Joni Mitchell but, to the best of my knowledge, Becca does not collaborate. Joni Mitchell's repertoire was (I believe) improved by collaboration with other performers (e.g., Jaco Pastorius). Becca gives enormous credit to her "Band" but consider the possibilities...

Gets under the skin
A beautiful album. "Imperfect Animals" gets under the skin with its intelligent lyrics, lovely harmonies, and production. This is what I think of as "interesting pop music." There are some great videos of songs from this and other albums by Becca Stevens.

Quirky and compelling
I heard an interview with Becca Stevens on NPR and the cuts they played from this album intrigued me. After repeated listening, I find her rhythms and harmonies just as compelling as I did hearing her interview on the radio. I find some lyrics puzzling, but the music is what is most important to me, so it's a solid "like."

Excellent!
I've listened to this album probably over fifty times and I'm still not tired of it. There's so much variety through the album, even some covers (which are superb), and there's not one song I would skip over.

Great Album. Sophisticated, Sensual Simplicty. Love it!
Love it. Perfect Animal is perfectly edgy, restless, and unpredictable. She breaks away from traditional chord progressions, clichéd melodies and comes up with a work that is original, wild, earthy, yet intimate. Good luck Becca Stevens Band. This old guy loves your sound!

I love this CD
Amazing and very individual talent. Lots of beautiful compositions and arrangements. Great musicianship and oh that voice. As has been mentioned there are hints of Joni Mitchell, jazz, prog, folk and rock all melded into a very original sound. This and the previous CD Weightless have become essential listening for me. Hope I get a chance to catch her / them live very soon.
