Works great... Easy Install
Last summer my 4wd on my 1999 Ranger wouldn't kick in. The 4wd high light would come on, blink, then go off without engaging the 4wd. Eventually, the 4wd lights quit coming on all together. After doing a little research - and verifying that the fuses weren't blown - I figured it was this motor that quit. Then, after seeing how easy it was to get to this part (google "1999 ford ranger shift motor rebuild") I ordered it. There are 4 easily accessible 10mm bolts that hold this on. The only tricky part was removing the speed sensor wire from the old connector and pushing it into the new one. (Why Ford designed it this way who knows...) Within a half hour I had 4wd again!! Who ever woulda guessed that Amazon would carry parts to fix your 4wd...

Works perfectly, Quality shift motor
I replaced the clutch and all components associated with the job in my 98 Ford ranger last month including this electronic shift motor. I had minor problems in cold weather with it wanting to shift in or out of 4x4 before. I figured after 18 years I'd replace this motor while there. Works perfectly, fast shipping and am very happy with product so far. No problems but as I was about to install it I did wonder why the plug in didn't have one pin in it like the old one did. After asking a Ranger site about the missing pin I was told to remove the transmission brown wire from the old unit plug and insert it into the new unit, works perfectly.

worked for a while then quit
Installed on my 2000 Ranger. It worked for a few years and then quit. After chasing down every part of this awful electronic shift system, I discovered that the contact circuit board and metal support plate inside the position sensor (gray bit on the back) had broken into pieces. No wonder it wasn't shifting... A more expensive unit I got elsewhere to replace it also just failed because of that stupid contact plate. So don't expect a long life from it, but I'd still recommend it for being worth a shot for the price considering the expensive ones also fail.

Great replacement, nearly exact match for 2002 Ford Ranger Pickup
I had to replace my rusted out motor so this looked like it would fit the bill. Access to the motor under my 2002 Ford Ranger was much easier than I expected and the wiring was all perfect. I've seen some installation directions that talk about replacing some wires, etc. but that was not the case with this motor. The wiring connector was just the same as the old one and fit perfectly. The only thing that didn't fit was the old bracket to attach the connector to, to keep the wiring in place and not vibrate excessively. I just didn't put the bracket on and zip tied the wiring to other wiring bundles and brackets near the motor. The notch on the old bracket did not match the contours of the new motor assembly, nothing to really worry about. Also, there are only four bolts to remove the motor assembly on my pickup. A very nice quality looking product and I expect it to last for the rest of my pickups life, and probably mine too.

Wrong connector
** UPDATE ** This part lasted around 19-20 months and now I need another transfer case motor. (that's why I'm on here - looking to order another) However, I'm still giving this 4 stars because this was not the exact part for my Explorer, as I mention in my original review below. Here is the correct part for my 2005 Explorer, and it looks beefier to me (in addition to having the right connector): http://amzn.com/B006LJC84U So the correct part may have lasted longer. This part is working fine, but the connector did not match that of the of my 2005 Ford Explorer. I had already removed my bad motor, so I cut off the connector to my old motor, and soldered it onto the new motor (used heat shrink tubing in addition to electrical tape to insulate). Again, motor seems to do a good job, just wished it had the right connector. Maybe my fault for not matching the part correctly or something, but I sure thought I had it right.

Saved me money
This motor is exactly like a more expensive model that Gorman sells. Just because of the year change they renumber it to sell at a higher price. Fit like the old one did and works fine when shifting to 4 wheel drive, either high or low gear. Glad I read about the swap another person did with this motor as I had looked at it numerous times before and the specs were the same on both motors but one was a lot more expensive than this model of it. Pays to read.

Worked for 8 months.
This transfer case motor worked initially, but failed after 8 months. A previous replacement unit was purchased about 4 years ago and was actually ok because the transfer case control modual was the problem then. It was reinstalled and worked. Too bad this item failed so quickly.

Great price.
So ok. I ordered the Dorman 600-807 for my Ford Ranger XLT 2010 instead of the 600-931 they suggested and it fits and works perfectly. 2 differences. 1) You will have to take the bracket from your old motor since it's different from the one you will order. 2) Be ready to SAVE 100$ compare to the 600-931.
