Easy, Applies Evenly, Good Scent
Great — got the weird copper color out of my hair (first photo is before). It is a very dark brown now but this dye applies very evenly and naturally. I used L’Oréal Féria hair dye months before this, which left uneven splotches. The John Frieda foam color creates little to no mess and is simple to use. Will buy again. At first, I thought this dye wouldn’t work because of how light and airy it is (felt like my hair was barely coated). Just keep adding more to saturate the hair and it will dye evenly. Also, smells SO much better than L’Oréal Féria, which was starting to give me headaches from the scent.

Garnier Olia step aside- John Frieda in da house!
I have dark brown hair and have been using Garnier for years now and decided to try something new. Well, I am a convert now! As compare to Olia, John Frieda’s foaming magic: - is easier to apply (this is especially important as I age and my nearsightedness gets worse) - provides more even and consistent coverage (I no longer have very noticeable streaks of medium brown where I didn’t do as good as a job as I intended) - results in total coverage of whites, however more subtle in color as compared to Olia; overall the color looks softer (but natural) - is gentler on my scalp than Olia - is less intense in terms of chemical smell - washes cleaner (I no longer have spots of brown dye on the shower walls that I have to rinse off *after* rinsing my hair) - results in slightly shinier and softer hair than Olia although the frizz level is about the same - stains less (easier to wipe off skin and my scalp is whiter in the aftermath as opposed to usually being tinted right after a dye job) Things that can make it better are the original gloves (new packages seem to have the cheap kind that every brand has now) and alternate ingredients (without sls, etc.). I’m happy that I tried the foaming dye and I don’t think I am ever going back unless I am looking for very strong saturated color that requires a lot more patience and luck. I will however, try to look for a foaming alt that is cleaner (while using JF in the meantime as my new best friend).

Best box color EVER.
This is by far the best box color I’ve ever tried, and I’ve tried a lot of them. I get compliments on how shiny my hair is and how rich the color is. It is super easy to apply, it’s very forgiving, it doesn’t take long at all, and the color doesn’t ever fade into something undesirable. The gloves are massive so, if you have small hands, you might want to use your own gloves.

Lots of Compliments!
I've been using this brand for over a year and gets tons of compliments on my color. For reference, I have medium brown, shoulder length, fine hair with about 10% gray. I use the Dark Natural Brown which is truly DARK, it's almost black. Be careful with choosing color online - IN MY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS PRODUCT, THE BROWNS RUN ONE SHADE DARKER THAN DESCRIBED. I have never used any color outside of the brunette family, so I don't know about the actual color of the blonde/red shades. The color is gorgeously rich for about a month, then it starts losing its luster. I color every 6 weeks. When this first came out, there was more product (quantity) so I always had a lot left over. Now there is less. If you have thick shoulder length hair or longer, you may need two bottles. I give it four stars because I always have a few grays left over even though I leave it on for the longest length of time. This could be user error or just super stubborn grays. I've been told by beauticians that my hair is stubborn about taking color. :)

Great color and Easy to use even for a novice
The Highlight: The bottom line is...this is a great, very natural looking color that is easy to apply As a result, I am a repeat buyer and will be as long as they keep the product the same or make it even better. But it's kind of hard to improve on something that is already great. The Backstory: I was accustomed to getting my hair professionally colored and everything done at the salon. My go to was getting Brazilian blow-outs, followed by rich colors that included a very involved coloring process. However, I decided I wanted to stop completely doing Brazilian blow-outs and color treatments [that involve regular bleaching to lift/then apply the color] and transition back to my natural curls as I was concerned about the impact of it on my health and the health of my baby if I became pregnant in the future. Since I noticed every time a stylist got pregnant at the salon, including my own stylist, they would shift all their Brazilian blow-outs to another non-pregnant stylist, so I did my research and decided if this was unhealthy for a baby, its likely unhealthy for the adult too and my health comes first. Covid then hit around the same time that I was phasing out my regular visits to the salon and going natural...but my plan was always to still get my hair colored at the salon but in a less damaging way. But when we had to go in lock down, I had to find an alternative solution for coloring my hair that still looked professional for work/zoom calls if I needed to stop all my salon visits entirely. My criteria was that this new solution had to be easy for a novice like me that when it came to hair stuff I would leave everything to the professionals and wouldn't dare venture into trying to do this myself. Now fast forward two years and counting I am coloring my hair like a pro with this product and my hair is completely natural and growing strong. And now I have detoxed from the Brazilian...I am getting ready to move to the next stage of the baby plan. Conclusion: Go for it and let them know the previous novice...now turn color pro have sent you...LOL. Cheers.

Less Expensive, Less Fuss but Great Hair Color
I love this hair color because with foam it is less messy. I’ve used others that weren’t foam and no matter how careful I tried to be I always ended up with hair color in the bathroom sink, tub AND floor. Don’t know how that happened. 😂 This brand is very affordable. It easy to mix because you only have to tilt NOT shake the bottle 5 times and it’s ready to go. Also I feel like you don’t have to use as much product. I always have leftover color. My natural is a dark brown but lately been getting a lot of stubborn gray hair around the temple and neck area. No matter what brand I use I leave the color on longer than what the instructions say because my gray hairs are ruthless. I prefer to get my hair colored at a salon but when trying to keep expenses down, this is the best no fuss hair color for those folks like me that do it themselves and wonder how hair color got on the bathroom floor, toilet seat and bathtub. Hahaha 😆

One of the worst I’ve used
I’m 35 and have been dying my hair since I was about 15. I’ve used all kinds of box dyes and also have gone to the salon. This is one of the worst. The foam application made it tricky, but I got multiple boxes because I have thick and long hair. I applied it so my hair was saturated, left it on as per instructions. It did not cover all my grays at the roots and it left my hair feeling horrible. It really damaged my hair, it’s super dry. The smell was terrible also, I rinsed super well and washed my hair again today to try to reduce the smell and I can still smell it. I tried this because it was able to come quickly through Amazon but I’m going back to my usual dye. This is one of the worst box dyes I’ve ever used. Use it if you want your hair to stink, not cover your gray, and you like the feeling of dry damaged hair.

Covers grey
I've been using this product for a couple of years now. The color is nice, it's easy to apply and lasts fairly long. Make sure to really saturate your hair and leave it on for the full time they recommend. I find it covers grey quite well.
