Great arcade shooter
Great arcade style shooter without losing all your quarters. Great game to replay anytime the mood strikes you.

Ridiculous, over the top fun
Originally released on the Wii, House of the Dead: Overkill gets an "Extended Cut" treatment here for the PS3, and we should all be glad that it has. The game has undergone a bit of a graphical makeover, added some extra features, and now supports the Playstation Move as well as 3-D visuals. Other than all that, it's pretty much the same game that hit the Wii a while back (and wasn't nearly as appreciated as it should have been then), but it's still boat loads of gorey fun. The grindhouse-style presentation, ridiculously bad dialogue, and overall balls-to-the-wall feel of the game is intact, and remains the best House of the Dead game to come along in quite some time. All in all, if you missed out on this game when it was on the Wii and you love some old school light-gun shooting action, pick this up, you'll be glad that you did.

Where is my bleepin' hand cannon!
I wasn't sure which peripheral was going to be required for great accuracy but it looks like the sharpshooter support implemented here makes it the weapon of choice. There are two ways to reload, a lockable grenade button, and the trigger is digital so you aren't wearing out your T-Button with extra hard trigger pulls. Besides the new levels etc, this grindhouse game classic now features 3D and not just high falootin' shutter glasses 3D but also old school Red/Blue or Magenta/Green stereoscopic 3D. I tried out the TRIOVIZ goggles you can get for Batman etc. and for some reason they ghosted the edges badly but I switched back to the gel cardboard batman glasses and the game looks and plays great with 3d intensity at about 55%. The movies ghost but the visuals here look sharp with zombies popping out at different depths and your sights sitting in the forefront. Also on offer is a single player unlockable dual wield mode for maximum trigger happy fun. I wish there had been more new levels and that the game had included glasses for the non 3D t.v set, also the profanity filter should be unlocked from the start. The minigames aren't in 3D but they are just an aside to what is a profane, graphic and thrilling on rails blast of splatter loving indecency. If your gun is drifting on other games it shouldn't here as calibration is rock solid and simple. No hand cannon needed the Sharpshooter is perfect for this game. After playing this game in both types of 3D(ana/stereoscopic) I noticed that only the movies on the final added OVERKILL level don't ghost horribly with BOTH types of 3D. Besides that I found the sense of depth greater with the nicer 3D but not much better ghost wise than the old type Magenta/Green.

For All Of You Ol School Arcade Light Gun Shooter Fans
Love this game! Cheesy 70's era "cinematography" and dialogue. Zombies (oops...I mean mutants). Multiple gun types with which to shoot the mutants. What more do you need when you've got a little time to kill? Seeing a mutant's head disappear after a well placed shot from the hand cannon and hearing the "Splat!" that goes along with it is just one of those gaming experiences you never get tired of.I won't go into much game detail because it is what it is: An on rails shooter that moves from set piece to set piece tasking you to plug away at pretty much anything that moves. It's got a plotline, funny characters that banter throughout the game (and in cutscenes) and a grading system that encourages you to replay missions for better scores and extra money to purchase and level up different guns. If you're one who got a kick out of going to the arcade back in the day and playing this game's light gun predecessors, you won't be disappointed.Which brings me to my recent purchase of the Playstation Move along with the sharpshooter accessory. I had been looking for a game to justify the purchase when I found this. Well, after several hours of playing, I'm extremely satisfied with each product. HOTD Overkill was made to be played with the Move and the sharpshooter and they all go together like peanut butter and chocolate. So, if you buy any one of these, I strongly suggest getting the others, also. Make sure you calibrate the controls properly, sit back (you can stand but you're gonna get tired after awhile) and enjoy!

If you like original House of the Dead or Japanse style gun games, skip it.
Like all those American remakes of Japanese games, e.g. DMC of Devil May Cry series, Ridge Racer Unbounded of Ridge Racer series, if you like the Japanese originals, you will be disappointed. This OVERKILL has nothing to do with the previous games, not only story but gameplay and style. Original series are arcade games based, simple, and fast action. If the original ones are scary, this OVERKILL is gross so much emphasizes on blood, twisted stories, swearing and etc.

3D disappointment
Ok this game is a load of fun do not get me wrong here... great fun with the PS3 move controllers combined with the PS Sharp Shooter gun assembly. Awesome Cheesy Grindhouse B-Movie appeal for sure!!! Where I dinged it for stars was the 3D... it is not digital 3D, but analglyphic meaning that it requires old school red/blue paper glasses for it's native 3D content. Very disappointed as I was looking forward to a truly nnative 3D gaming experience on mty new Samsung 3D TV... When using the TV's 2D-3D upscaling 3D worked ok, but only as good as one could expect when using integrated conversion and didn't have the punch I was hoping to see I.E. zombies and body parts flying out of the screen... Most 3D images without using native mode are limited to background images like furniture etc. That said however.. if you like cheesy one liners and B horror movie effects... this game takes it over the top and is a load of fun to play, while keeping the player happily amused at the character antics etc while blasting away at wave after wave of zombies...Def a descent purchase and well built game except for the 3D disappointment...
