My charbroiled grill measures 40" form outside to outside of the lid. Will,this fit?

Can you use this motor vertically?

I would say no. Reason is, there is nothing that "locks" the spit rod into the motor. With the motor at the top, the rod would fall out, and if it was at the bottom, all the juices would run into the motor.
