as we are quite picky about our espresso and it is close to impossible to find a coffee shop that encourages/trains baristas in
Waited for a while before posting a review, as I wanted to be sure that we had worked out all of the kinks that is inherent in new acquisitions.I lived in Italy for a couple years in the 70s, and introduced my husband to the goodness that is a properly crafted espresso, which was reinforced through subsequent holiday trips to Italy. We owned a coffee shop for 12 years, so we are very versed in how to make proper espresso, as well as brewed coffee. We closed our coffee shop 5 years ago (for personal reasons) and sold off our equipment, except for the grinder that we used for the espresso. We promptly purchased a Rancilio Epoca S1 espresso machine for personal use in our remaining business, as we are quite picky about our espresso and it is close to impossible to find a coffee shop that encourages/trains baristas in the proper steps to making great product. Sad to say, our poor old espresso grinder became unusable for our exacting requirements, so we examined options to replace the old grinder. After a lot of consideration, we decided that putting money out at the beginning for a quality product was much more preferable than trying/testing a number of less expensive grinders. The product was shipped VERY quickly; no complaints regarding the shipping itself. As noted in other comments, there was a residue of grounds in the box when unpacked ... which we totally expected, as we knew that this was for mechanism tests ... rather it be tested at the factory than us have to do it! It is impossible to get every little bit of coffee out of the grinder without doing a dismantle for cleaning ... which could in itself lead to later problems. Instead of complaining about the grounds, we cleaned up the outside & loose parts before installing it on the counter ... quite an easy job.As we now live in an area that does have major shifts in humidity, we are eternally grateful for the ability to easily adjust the grind to accommodate the change in humidity from day to day. We use only filtered water in our espresso machine, tamp the grinds appropriately to get the correct draw timing for a perfect crema. Works like a charm. If we still had our coffee shop, we would use this grinder for decaf espresso, as we did not use that grinder as much as for regular espresso (we had an industry-appropriate work horse -- a Rancilio MD-50 -- for regular espresso). I was hesitant to spend so much on a grinder, but having purchased espresso equipment in the past (and buying an Epoca espresso machine for our personal use), it was far wiser to purchase something that would properly do the job and last a long while. If these machines can stand up to coffee shop abuse, they should last a long time in the personal environment.

Ranchilio Rocky, is it Worth it?
It works great so far in the first month or two of usage. I was comparing this vs the Baratza Vario W which from reviews seemed to have electrical issues over time. The only problem I've had with the Rancilio Rocky Doser thus far is to with the grounds coarseness adjustment feature which isn't a deal breaker. Just ensure when you dial down the grounds setting that if you encounter resistance, don't immediately turn it on or you'll jam the motor. If you rotate it multiple times, it loosens up the grounds and goes back to working normally. With the availability of parts readily available online for the rocky I have no hesitation that down the road when parts wear out, you would be able to find replacement parts. Should one go doserless or doser,... I usually make several espressos per morning so I have found not having to babysit the machine a benefit while getting ready in the morning as the dose holds enough for several extractions. A tighter seal on the bean hopper would help increase the freshness and can be solved with a rubber band for a makeshift seal. All in all, I recommend this to anyone looking for an espresso grinder as my experience thus far has been excellent.

Very poor assembling but you'll know that only when you clean it!
Bought in October (after an exchange as the first one arrived with a broken hopper), I decided yesterday to clean my Rancilio Burr Grinder with Doser. I was very happy with the consistence of the grinded coffee, no problem from this side, but always was puzzled by the fact that some coffee was found under the grinder when cleaning the counter - I now know why.If you already went through the cleaning process, you know that you have to take out the hopper in order to access the burrs. Once the hopper removed, you can have a clear view on how some of the parts are assembled. It looks like the motor plus the burrs on top are attached to the front support (as well as the back plate of the grinder). Unfortunately, one of the plastic support was broken (certainly being too tight during assembly). This resulted in having the discharge spout not being aligned with the plastic doser lens that was certainly put in force, also during assembly. This in turn broke the lower part of the plastic window that, when mounted properly, makes the bridge between the output of the burrs and the doser lens. This created a gap and therefore coffee was free to fall between the motor and the front support plate. I took out around 3/4 of a coffee pack from the inside of the grinder, and was quite surprised that this did not impede the functioning of the grinder. Now, since you generally don't clean this type of equipment on reception, I am outside the returning window and had to find the parts - roughly $75 to repair this grinder. Obviously, during that time, I cannot use my Rancilio Silvia.I might go for another brand next time. I wish I could put some pictures...

Perfect match for Rancilio Silvia
I was struggling with all kinds of grinders (espresso consistency) until I finally went for the extra cost of getting a decent grinder. The Rancilio Rocky turned out to be the perfect match for the Rancilio Silvia machine.
