5 PCS Antique Hook Hasp Vintage Bronze Swing Lock Clasp Right Latch Closure with Screws for Suitcase Case Jewelry Wooden Boxes (Length:1-1/8", Height: 1-3/8")

I like these latches. They are solid and not pressed sheet metal. They look very nice. They are spring loaded such that they stay closed resulting in a positive latch. They are small enough for the top half to fit on the edge of a 1/2" thick lid of a box. They are fairly easy to install although the screws are of necessity, very small. You will need a very small phillips head screwdriver to install them. I didn't have any trouble with the screws bending as reported by others. I assume the screws are also brass. They are not self-drilling. You will need to drill a pilot hole at least as deep as the length of the screws. I would expect installation to be nearly impossible if one attempted to install the screws with pilot holes too shallow or with no pilot holes at all. Maybe that's why other reviewers had problems with the screws. I made a quick count, and I think they come with one extra screw which is important to me especially with screws this small.

First off, I didn't realize that there were five latches in an order. I needed two so I ordered two and received 10 in total. Bonus I guess As I opened the package and seen where it was made, China, I thought, "here we go again" but was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this product. Each latch has a built-in spring loaded feature that keeps the latch open or closed. Nice. Yes, they are small, but so are the two jewelry boxes I made. They are just right.

They actually work but not strong enough for what I needed it for.

The latch itself works great and was easy to install. I marked where the screws were suppose to go with a pencil then tapped a small nail into the wood about 1/4" deep. That's all you needed to install the screws. Easy peasy. But the top piece( that has the hook part ) had some small nobs on the back side that if you didn't file them flat would not allow the piece to fit flat against the surface of the wood. All of them had it so you'd have to file them down. I just used one so I only did that one, but it's annoying that you have to at all. Otherwise, the latch worked just fine once it's installed.

We are using this to keep a bi-fold door shut! Someone doing work in our house did something to our door and it no longer stayed shut. So we thought of trying this on the middle of the door to keep it flat and therefore keep it closed. Just unlatch and the door opens, latch easily and it stays closed. It is nice and small but just big enough so it looks good and works. There are a hundred uses for these little guys and since they are made so well, they will get the job done.

The finish on these clasps is nothing like that pictured in the description. Very dark brown and can’t use them on my boxes.

These small clasps are of pretty decent quality, and they look nice with the antique finish. I used some slightly larger screws than those provided, because I couldn't afford to have the heads break off during installation, as reported by some purchasers. VERY reasonable price!
