Does the rain gauge bucket for outside get mounted to anyth or does it just sit on your deck?

I think it can sit on a deck but it has to be within a certain distance from outside monitor. I returned it because it was too complicated to set up. I advise you to watch the videos before ordering.

How would it be moumted to top of a 4x4 wooden post?

I took a piece of 1x6 cut to 3.5" wide and lacquered it with 3 coats. I then attached that to the top of the post with a couple of wood screws then attached the base of the unit to the 1x with the screws included with the unit. I place a 2"X2"x1/16" piece of aluminum (could be any material. I just had that laying around) as a spacer between the unit base and the 1x to give the drain ports a little more room. If your post is plumb you won't have to do any shimming to level the base. Otherwise, you could use strips of metal or wood to level the base using the integral bubble level in the base.

Why can''t Iget any rainfall information from my rain guage?

I have the item in question and had no problems. If you are not getting data, you might try moving the display to different locations. Mine is about 25 feet from the instrument. Check the batteries in the gauge to make sure they are working. I lew of these suggestions you can always call the manufacturer. Good luck.
