Colorist's Special Effects 3: More step-by-step guides & fun, coloring tricks & techniques

Here is a work in process from one of my other books, using Helen’s tree bark. It’s not complete, but I am impressed how easy this was. The entire book is well thought out and just packed with lessons for skills you will like to have in your repertoire. The quantity is topped only by the quality, clear and easy to follow step-by-step exercises. The book has a nice flow, simple objects moving on to more complex ones. I think this is a great book for beginners, but intermediate and advanced colorists also would enjoy and use.I’ve enjoyed the two previous Special Effects book, but I am fondest of this one by far, great book!

In keeping with her other books, Helen Claire has produced another amazing step by step tutorial detailing how to color quite a range of objects. Love the style of the steps and their clarity and so appreciate the use of Prismacolor numbers. To me it’s the top selling feature of her books. I love that she tackles waterfalls, and scenery in this book. I’ve a lot of work/fun ahead of me!

If you are looking for some tips on how to color realistically, look no further than this series. There are two books in this series. I got them to help me with my colored pencil work. They are really nice. They explain things step by step and provide space for practice. I highly recommend them. More for colored pencils than crayons. Don't confuse this with some kind of kids book. It can be used by all ages but is geared toward teens or adults.

I would definitely agree with an earlier review someone mentioned on this. I recently bought book 2 and 3, both have good material but it looks like they were done with crayons on cheap paper. The color quality is horrible and definitely not worth the price I paid for the quality.

For anyone who loves to color, whatever your skill level, Helen's books are easy to follow and fun to use.Highly recommend :-)

This whole series of books are wonderful! Easy to read and understand, and contain practice areas to perfect your coloring. There's always a little something extra in them. They have helped me understand how to shade and define as well as make my own color combos. Thanks!

I have her previous books and enjoy learning how to do new techniques with instructions one can follow and enjoy it more that some of my favorite color channels actually took us through an exercise. As sometimes following instructions can be and often are interpreted differently with end results being perfect!

This book has really easy to follow tutorials which produce stunning results. I found the tutorials so easy to remember as well, that after a few goes at them, I could reproduce the results without having to refer to the books, which means that it easy to incorporate them into my work. Many reference Prismacolor pencils but I found it easy to use other brands and get the same results.

If you want your colourings to really come alive and pop out of the page then this is the book you need. If you enjoyed the previous two books in this series you really won't be disappointed with this latest addition. Once again this is packed full of wonderful hints and techniques to take your colouring to another level. My son who is a budding young artist is also finding the techniques just as helpful for colouring in his own pictures. We are both delighted!

These books are really good for adding that extra professionalism to the quality of your colouring. I've tried out a few of the tutorials and it really does make a difference. Very impressed

I have all three books of Helen's and have learnt so much from each and everyone . They are easy to follow and the practice pages are so helpful . Would recommend for beginners and more experienced colourists .

Bit expensive for what it is but it is quite useful I have followed some of the tutorials so it’s definitely worth keeping
