The measurement graduations are off by a quarter inch at the bottom.
I have owned these Taylor rain gauges for years. I love the .05 hundredths measurement graduations very much. And the tall rain gauge works well attached to a fence post. I needed to replace an old unit this past season and ordered another Taylor unit. However, this unit is flawed and the measurement graduations start a good quarter inch off the bottom of the gauge. The .05 mark starts that far up the bottom of the rain gauge. (See Red line on Photos) So if water was up to the first mark, you actually have about .15 hundredths of rain in the gauge not .05. That makes every marker off by .15. This rain gauge won’t be accurate because of that production flaw. Sorry, but this gauge is going back. See photos include with this review. A great rain gauge if the production was quality controlled better. If it can’t measure correctly, it’s not worth many stars until the issue is corrected.

Neon Floating Indicator Fades To Near Invisibility Within a Few Months
I hoped that this Taylor gauge, a near identical device to the Accurite product, would at four times the price, be of a higher quality plastic less subject to yellowing over two seasons. We will see. The bright (when new) floating indicator appeared a clever addition to readability from a distance of 18'. However, with near zero fade resistance and the challenge of emptying the device while simultaneously trying to capture the floater resulted in its eventual disappearance. I'll likely replace this with the $4 Accurite when the plastic breaks down on the Taylor.

Can see from 10 feet away!
This gauge is awesome. Just stick it in the ground, or in a large plant pot that the plant isn't going to obstruct rainfall, and you are set.I've found that with our lovely NC clay soil, and rainfalls that tend to be gullywashers vs. light summer rains, the mud can bounce up and land in side the gauge, leaving it mucky and then hard to read. I just bring it in, fit it with water and a little electric dishwasher detergent, let it sit a bit, and then use a bottle brush to clean it out. Good as new.Speaking of which, I wonder if Rain-X would help keep this from happening? If I try it, I'll let you know!

It leaks
The rain gauge looks nice but it will not hold water. We had a good rain the day after I installed the Taylor rain gauge but when I checked the Taylor rain gauge the next day it had no water in it at all. I have an older Taylor rain gauge, another style, and it showed we had a little less that 2 inches. I can not recommend anyone buying this rain gauge. I will have to get some supper glue to seal the bottom plug that is just stuck in the bottom. Hope that works.

I bought the Taylor rain gauge in April 210. I did have a problem with it leaking , so I took a dowel and popped the bottom out and applied clear silicone around the bottom of the tube and reinserted the cap and it has been fine for 5 years. I do like the accuracy of the gauge and the extra length gives it 2 inches for each 1inch of rain so you can read it easier.I tried the black marker on the numbers and It really help to see the numbers. I made my own bracket that mounts just above my house gutter and I can read it from the front porch. They do get yellowish after a few years but I am happy with mine.

Great value!
Great value for money. Only thing that could be improved is a way to keep red plastic water indicator from falling out when you empty guage.

Flimsy bracket
The rain gauge is wonderful. Glass, well marked and sturdy. The holder on the other hand is flimsy. It’s plastic and does not hold the gauge well. My gauge fell out twice. Both times once there was about half an inch of rain in it. I had to bracket it with metal.
