wish the handle was longer...??

For me I had another handle so if I wished the handle was long or short I could swap. I generally prefer a long handle but either works for me.

does the actual blade project out from the non shaving sides?

The blade is set back approximately 1mm from both the open comb and safteybar edges of the razor. The blade makes contact with the skin at a shaving angle of about 30 degrees.

Will the aluminum head hold up well?

Mine is a stainless head. I've had no problems. But mine was also much more than $75. If you have problems you can still buy the head separate. The handle is stainless on the 101
