SENNELIER Extra-Soft French Half Pastel Professional Artist Box Set, 60-Colors

Great pastel color palette. My granddaughter asked for these for Christmas. She loves them !

I used to do portraits in pastels many years ago, but had to stop for various reason. Now that I'm not so busy I wanted to pick up where I left off, but I realized that my old pastels needed upgrading so I did much research on the subject. There were so many favorable comments, videos and reviews on Sennelier Extra-Soft Pastels for quality and pricing. First, I purchased the box of 120 half sticks which I loved. I had never used such soft chalk before which seemed to glide along the paper. It was a beautiful experience with so many amazing colors that blend so well. I noticed that Sennelier had an Extra-Soft Pastel Half Stick Set of 60. I ordered it because it came in a beautiful box which is perfect to work from for my work area. The 60 colors were repeats of some of the colors in the 120 box but I wanted to have spares. I love the box and it's design. It's perfect for my work set-up. Also, I had to return my first box because the top portion of the inner box that holds the sticks was broken. I got a replacement and all is well. I highly recommend.

I love the Sennelier soft pastels. They are soft and have beautiful selection of colors. I use them myself and bought this set for my granddaughter. It comes in a beautiful case. The quality is good and they are not expensive.

These are by far the BEST Pastel Chalks I have ever used! Just at the very first touch in my fingers I knew I had something special! The extra soft pastels are soothingly creamy and I am a blender so loving how well they blend together. They fill the pours of my pastel paper fantastic! I will never switch brands! I’m in paradise with these! The packaging is top of the line! Super professional! Masterpiece after Masterpiece will come from these chalks! WOW! 5 out of 5 Stars plus a bonus Star to boot!

Beautiful selection of colors in an elegant black wood box. Beautiful range of blues to play with. the set does lack some greens in my opinion- This is truly a great beginner set, but be warned that you will WANT more! so you may consider getting 120 half stick instead. I have used may brands of soft pastels and sennelier remains my favorite by far for their buttery quality and vibrant colors - another plus is that all of sennelier colors are made to harmonized between each other. The half sitck are chubbier than the full ones and as such do not crumble or break as easily as the full ones.

I was shocked to find that several colors are extremely hard and scratch the heavy weight pastel paper rather than leave a deeply pigmented mark like they're supposed to. I'm not sure if I got a bad or old batch or what, but it's really disappointing since it makes those colors basically unusable, and these are NOT cheap. There's no list or swatches of each included pastel to tell you what color it is for reordering either. The ones that do work are lovely though, super soft and creamy texture, amazingly intense pigmentation, and just a dream to work and play with. My set came from Plaza Art, so keep that in mind when you go to order, maybe their supplies sit around a long long time between sales.

What can I say? They live up to being soft and buttery, coming out on top on even the darkest papers! Blendable, vibrant, and a joy to work with. I'm going to look into buying another set because I'd love to have more colors.
