OutsetQT20 Collection, 1 EA, Stella Locking Tongs

This is a very nice product, you should buy it.A set of tongs only needs to do a handful of things well, and this pair does them all. These tongs are probably the ideal length for most people. They are long enough to get you a decent distance away from the heat source, but not so long that you lose control. The scalloped shaped edges provide enough of a point to grab on to food but are curved enough to not pierce it or tear it apart by accident. The base of the handles are reasonably heat resistant so you shouldn't burn yourself (I never have), and because of the length you won't need to wear any kind of protective glove unless you are standing at the heat source constantly. The locking mechanism works and it works well. It is simple and effective and still does its job after years of use. Finally, while I could not find any specific information about it, I have always thrown it in the dishwasher and it has come out just fine for four years now.While I always try to point out any real flaws or problems with a product, this one just doesn't have any that I can think of. If you are in the market for a great set of tongs for your grill or home, this is an excellent pair to buy.

This set of tools is extremely sturdy and shows good build quality with one VERY notable exception. The spring and locking mechanism of the tongs makes my set functionally useless.Instead of winding a spring the width of the riveted pin that connects the tong arms and incorporating a pull-lock into the handle (like many other models) these tongs have a combination mechanism which bridges the riveted-pin with a small spring and a bulky plastic shim.On my set of tongs this pin is bent and prevents the springs from allowing the tongs to remain open AND prevents the shim from allowing the tongs to lock closed.As such, unless I choose to replace the rivet, replace the spring, and abandon the locking function I essentially have a piece of aluminum scrap.Very disappointing.

Note that every review so far (Nine of them) like this product.So keep that in mind when you read my review ... I must have gotten one that slipped by quality.And if you purchase these, there is a good chance you will get a five star product...BUT IT IS NOT my fault that they gave me a pair that sticks so please do not bad mouth me too much :), but my info is why you are here so I owe it to you to give the truth.The sliding lock sticks and binds up when trying to lock the tongs in the closed position.I poured cooking oil on the moving parts and that seemed to help a little bit.Also since the sliding lock sticks, the rubber piece is coming loose and sliding about, showing a lot of metal.If I keep it, I will pull on the rubber exposing the metal underneath and add some contact cement to the metal and then slide the rubber back over top of it.When these tongs are layed side by side next to my Oxo tongs, they are 98% compatible in just about every way. (Except the slot on the sliding lock is NOT AS WIDE as on the OXO. Thus it looks like someone decided to not just make some tongs, but to make a "knock off" version of Oxo.If the lock DID NOT STICK AND JAM, I would have given these a five stars.With the sticking and jamming I give them a three star.But now knowing that they intentionally decided to create an identical knock off, I am taking another star off.Quality is part of the cost of the product.

The Outset QT20 are very nice tongs for light to medium duty in the kitchen. For outdoor grill work a more heavier set should be considered. The weight of the Outset on my postal scale is 6.4oz and the metal is .033" thick.For comparison I have an identical set to the Dutch Oven 16" Stainless Tongs found on this site and can be purchased most anywhere for $3.00 to $9.00. These are more heavy duty weighing 8.7oz and .042" thick plus the tongs are fully rolled and braced. They lack the locking mechanism but have an attached square sliding wire ring that serves the purpose. On these cheapos I had to do a few adjustments and use a file to rough-up the very slippery grip area so you get what you pay for but they're more suited for coals and larger cuts of meat, IMO.The Outset QT20 are probably the same as OXO as noted in another review. Overall they look nice on a hook waiting to flip some chops and the locking mechanism functions perfectly. For the price paid, $10.00, it was a good deal.

These are the best for BBQing. Those crappy tongs that come in bbq tools sets are useless. Don't waste your money buy a good set of LONG TONGS. These work great for gripping things of all sizes on the Q to turn and move them. Also they are long enough that you don't burn yourself working on the back of the grill. The only thing that would make these better is a better hanging option for hanging them on the grill. I usually just leave then unlocked and slide them between a handle on the side of the grill.

Great set of BBQ tools and a can't beat price. Quality is better than expected. Only slight drawback is the pull to open/close tab on the top of the tongs, which is not very easy to use.

These long handled tongs are AWESOME for cooking over a camp fire. They keep you from burning your hands and are all-around useful for just about anything you need to do. I used a friend's while on a camp out and had to immediately buy my own. Very, very pleased with them and the quality. The black parts are a nice, grippy rubber and the black loop at the end is also rubberized so the surfaces that you would be touching while cooking stay cool while you're using them. I enjoy good tools that work the way they should, reliably every time you use them and these tongs fit the bill!

Missing some rigidity.
