Larfleeze (2013-2015) Vol. 1: Revolt of the Orange Lanterns

Although he looks like Pumbaa in an orange jumpsuit, the hyperbole of avarice that is "Larfleeze," is really the Gollum of the DC Green Lantern Universe. With his Orange Lantern ring allowing him to have great power with no responsibility, he is the king of all hoarders and wants to own everything. In some weird way, even useless things are "precious" to Larfleeze. He is an arrogant, greedy, disturbingly selfish and self-seeking creature who didn't learn how to share when he was a young warthog (or whatever he is).The writers do a very decent job of creating a backstory for this obviously psychologically damaged character, but be cautious. The source for most of Larfleeze's origin story come from his own account of his history.The addition of his sarcastic butler as a balance to Larfleeze's obnoxious personality traits serves as both comic relief, and says exactly what the reader is thinking. This is a hilarious read. I would have rated this as a 4.5 out of 5 if I knew how to rate a half star. I am glad that this book is "Mine," but I am a bit afraid that Larfleeze might try and steal it back.

A little too tongue in cheek for my taste. I always saw Larfleeze as a very tragic yet indignant character. The allusions to his past about his family and friends that he abandoned or destroyed for the sake of the orange light set a very dark tone for Larfleeze when he was first introduced prior to the Blackest night saga. His voracious appetite at times appeared comical be there was always a very threatening and ruthless nature to his greed. These books make him out to just be a buffoon. I understand the idea for going in this direction to make him more comical, but I don't think the writer was successful.

Larfleeze, the mascot of greed and gluttony, finally stars in his own series. The first book of the series is extremely hysterical, witty, and surprisingly sharp. Ditzy goddesses, unwilling servants, and immortal union workers round out a strong and memorable cast. Keith Giffen takes what would normally be a one-dimensional character and breathes new life into him, all while evolving the Lantern Mythos.

Great art, laugh-out loud funny, and yet it avoids being ignorable in its goofiness by dealing with the characters involved in an exciting way that engages on multiple levels. This comic knows its funny but doesn't revel in it. Just a whole lot of fun!

Larfleez is hilarious!! I'd say it's the best new lightsmith title to read.

Stargrave is hilarious, Larfleeze is adorably annoying, and the plot is actually pretty epic. I can't wait for Volume 2.

If you like Larfleeze and or the cosmic space side of the DC universe read this book !!!

Larfleeze was a great creation. Whether he can carry his own series is in doubt though. Here, he can't. Giffen & DeMatteis tell a story that's full of a couple of chuckles but unfortunately, Larfleeze seemed like the guest star in his own book. The antagonists were lame. Scott Kollins art was rushed and unfocused throughout. Overall, the book would work better as an annual instead of an ongoing.

I love this DC book. Excellent comedy and writing. Oh Larfleeze, you are so greedy. Highly recommended.

Nun hat auch Larfleeze der Orange Agent seine Serie bekommen, und ich will sagen, dass das erste Trade Paperback mir gefallen hat.Als erstes kann man schreiben, dass das Buch wirklich lustig ist. Es gibt wirklich ein paar Stellen in denen die Figur von Larfleeze voll ausgereizt wird. D.h. alle Witze und Anspielungen passen auf die Figur und sind nicht einfach plump dahingestellt (hab ich schon anders erlebt). Vor allem die Dynamik zwischen Larfleeze und Stargrave ist meiner Meinung nach gut gelungen, wobei zwar solche Charakterisierungen von Meister und Handlanger schon oft in anderen Büchern, Filme, oder, oder, oder gezeigt wurden aber hier ist es souverän gemacht. Kurz: Einfach zu charakterisierende Figuren, und das Beste daraus erstellt. Auch gibt es hier ein paar, sagen wir mal düstere Stellen der Charaktere, die aber vom Buch humoristisch dargestellt werden. Aber auch einige der anderen Charaktere sind "eigenartig". :-)Die Geschichte kann man anfänglich als typisch, untypische Weltraum-Reise-Geschichte beschreiben. Die Art der Geschichte ist nichts Aufregendes, kann aber nach der Hälfte Fahrt aufnehmen, denn diese teilt sich in zwei Handlungsstränge auf, wobei Larfleeze einen Stargrave jeweils die Handlungen tragen. Und wie üblich ist hier auch zu schreiben: Hier gibt es Hintergrundgeschichten, was für eine Überraschung... Hier kann ich zu meinen Erfreuen schreiben, dass die Geschichte zwar ein paar mal wenig auf andere Geschichten vom Green Lantern Universum aufgreift, allerdings komplett eigenständig funktioniert. Das finde ich ist die Stärke des Buches. Es ist nicht besonders tief oder erzählt Sachen die komplett neu sind, aber erzählt es im angenehmem Tempo.So nun kommen wir zu den Zeichnungen. Diese sind zwar doch schön bunt, ausdrucksstark, aber nicht immer besonders detailreich. Bei einigen Pannels sind die Leute im Hintergrund oder die Masse nur zweckmäßig dargestellt und paar wenige Pannels sind nur komplett mal hinreichend gezeichnet. Ich glaube das ist dem Stile geschuldet, der aber auch Spaß machen kann. D.h. nicht, dass der Stile besonders schlecht ist. Es ist mehr cartoonhaft gezeichnet.Zum Ende hin ist einfach schön und erfrischend zu lesen. Wer Science Fiction mit Humor mag, kann hier meiner Meinung nach zugreifen. Es erfindet im erzählerischen Sinne zwar nichts neues, aber es setzt gut zusammen, was es hat. Ich finde ein guter Auftagt einer Serie.

this is without a doubt the worst lantern solo act in the history of dc comics, art is a total joke for the 21st century, story is a bigger joke, such a disgrace to larfleeze that the makers downgraded this lantern. keith griffin j.m demattis and scott kolins deserve a right kicking up and down america. such an embarassment to read, im sending it bk to get my money bk
