Toasting my Bourbons in the Midwest
If you are looking for these for toasting Bourbon, there is a good chance I recommended them in a Facebook group we are in together. A friend in a local Bourbon club gave me a sample of Michter's Barrel Strength Toasted and I absolutely LOVED it. Knowing I was never going to be able to find one of my own made me very sad.A few weeks later I was at my local purveyor of fine beverages and he had a new product called Oak and Eden Toasted Bourbon that had a wooden spiral in the bottle. The gears started turning in my and I found myself on Amazon looking at these spirals (after I picked up the Oak and Eden). I enjoyed the O&E and the toasted flavor, but I recognized that it was "just" a 4 year old MGP sourced bottle. I thought, how awesome would it be to toast a great bottle that I already love? By that time I had found this product and it was on the way to my house. My initial experiments were with Maker's Mark Cask Strength and Michter's Straight Rye. I broke off about a 1 inch piece and finished it in a 4 Roses Small Batch Select bottle (the spiral would not fit in any other bottle I owned). I let it soak for about 4-5 days and it was beautiful. My observation was that once the spire chunk had absorbed enough of the booze to sink in the bottle, it was about done. This was around the 3-4 day mark. Obviously our tastes may be different so take a sip every day and pull it when you love it.Ultimately I think the higher proof Maker's came out much better. The Michter's was great, but my friend had already shown me the gold standard that was Michter's Barrel Strength Toasted and nothing with a proof in the mid 80s was going to measure up. I am looking forward to finding more things to try and hopefully my pals in the local Bourbon club will share their results with me as they experiment. If you find yourself drawn to finished Bourbon's that have a toasted flavor profile, you will really enjoy what these can bring to your bottles. Equally enjoyable is letting others sample what you have created and having them praise your work. If you create something amazing please leave a review on here so I can find new things to try.

Great Product
I love these oak spirals. The only inconvenience is the size, they won't fit into a bottle. I just get quart canning jars and pour the tequila into them then add about a 2 inch piece. It really does take a lower grade blanco tequila and turn it into a nice reposado if let for about 2 weeks. It would make a nice anejo if left longer. Just try it at different intervals to see and taste the difference.

Very large. Does not fit into my decanter or standard cork bottle
The diameter is larger than most bottle necks. You will need a gallon size wine carboy if you want to use the whole stick. Or break it in two and put it in a mason jar for smaller batches.I also have two Thousand Oaks 5 liter Oak barrels and the filling hole is way to small to use these sticks.

Works wonders!
I was interested in playing around with the flavor profiles of some bourbon to see what these spirals had to offer. In a decanter I used half a stick of the heavy toast American oak spiral. My first batch was a bottle of Buffalo Trace. It's a bourbon I am very familiar with, and already starts out with a relatively pleasant nose, flavor, and finish (if not incredibly complex). A good all around bourbon. Had a tasting party (aka, excuse to drink with friends) and even after a couple of weeks, the nose is more pleasant, flavor is similar to Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, and it finishes very smooth. Very pleasing results, but we started out with a bourbon I enjoy.I wanted to see just how much these oak spirals could do, so I took one of my most disagreeable bottles and put it to the test. Could it make a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 drinkable? A pretty serious test considering Wild Turkey 101 has a nose like acetone, a flavor like e85, and a finish like 91% isopropyl alcohol. After just a week, the results are nothing but amazing. The nose is rather pleasant, flavor is delicious (again similar to WR Double Oaked), and the finish is much more smooth, though maybe a bit too strong for me to fully enjoy (think high rye burn). I can't wait to see how it matures with a bit more time.

Give it time (4+ months)
I tried using these to make a bottom shelf whiskey more flavorful. For the first month or so it darkened in color and made it slightly more Smokey but wasn’t enough to make it viable for quickly increasing complexity. I gave up on it for a bit but around four months though and when I came back the change was drastic! Every drink will likely react differently but for mine:Burn was cut at least in halfGained a rich raisiny sweetnessSmoke flavor mellowed to a deep earthinessThe only negative is it started felling a little like a flavored whiskeyIt took a while but successful upgraded a bottom shelf to a mid shelf

These spirals are very large
The only bottle I could find that these would fit into is the Jack Daniels 1.75L bottle. It is perfect. I use it now as my infinity bottle and with 1 of the spirals, Adds an awesome, aged flavor!

Infuses quickly
These are a lot bigger than I expected. (My own fault - I had previously bought some years ago in kickstarter that were thin and fit in a bottle, so that is more what I expected.)These are too big to fit in a bottle so you need a jar or different container to 'age' it in.I actually bought these to use in vanilla extract. I broke half of one of the sticks in pieces, and added along with 16 Ugandan vanilla beans to a mason jar and topped it off with vodka. This made vanilla turn out super dark and smoky. If you are using it for adding flavor to booze, keep a close eye on it. It can be overpowering if you leave it to steep for too long.
