Great bags at a more than reasonable price- I'd buy again.
Update 2 June 10, 2016: The handle came yesterday and it turned out to be a little harder to replace than I was hoping for. The assembly was riveted in which is easy to remove (drill it out), but difficult to replicate. I went, instead for 2 bolts and nylon locking nuts. It works and I'm VERY HAPPY! Update, June 6, 2016: I just got off the phone with High Sierra's customer service and had a GREAT experience. I chose not to email them because I like talking with people in these instances and I was able to give him the information right then and there (and another reviewer had problems doing it via email). Anyway, apparently my son leaves the telescoping handle up as school, something heavy fell on the bag and the handle bent (would have been no problem if he'd collapsed the handle like he was supposed to). I didn't think the handle looked replaceable, but upon further inspection, it did. So I called the warranty and repair dept (1-888-368-1304) hoping to BUY a new handle since this was my kid's fault, not a warranty issue. After verifying the model and if a handle is available, they're sending one out, no charge!!! Hopefully it's only one screw holding the handle in as it looks. All this took a grand total of 10 minutes. I'll update as soon as the handle comes in in 3-5 business days :) Oh, and my 2 10-year olds have used these bags for 2 school years and the bags are almost in perfect condition and hold A LOT. This was the first review, from May 2015. One school year in and this bag still looks close to new. Everything still works well. I bought two of them for my 3rd grade twins and have NOT let them roll them through the sand or grass- only over pavement (to protect the wheels). I also told them how to treat the handle by not spinning it around to face another direction- they need to walk it around carefully. One child had to be told a few times not to try and ride the handle like a horse .... I did all of this warning because I pick them up every day and see the abuse kids put on these roll-arounds. Then I hear the parents talk about how one brand or another doesn't last. I figured that these looked tough and I like the reviews so I tried them out- but I instilled those rules because I want these to last for 3-4 years. I'd buy them again, but I hope I won't have to for a while :)

Fits my needs
This bag is great. Here are my thoughts. I'm a wildland firefighter who, when she goes on western fire details, has to take 2 larger roller duffle style bags. I always carried an extra backpack for my mini starlink, 14 inch laptop, IPAD, jacket, handheld radio and other stuff like toiletries, chargers, reading glasses and such. With the addition of the mini starlink my backpack was becoming heavy. I purchased this backpack roller bag so that I could carry everything on my back until I checked my 2 bags and this left my hands free to roll the bag, saving my back. PROS: it holds everything I need it to. I love that the third zipper zips all of the way down on both sides. The bag, empty, is not that heavy. You don't feel the wheels on your back when carrying it on your back. Wheels roll smoothly. Has 1 bottle holder on the side (I wish it had 2). CONS: it's kinda difficult to get the backpack straps put away. There is no velcro strap cover (like other bags) that folds down to help remove the straps. I wish there were 2 bottle holders, one on each side. I wish the middle zipper opened the whole way so you could get into the middle pouch better. Maybe put a small, open pouch on the front to drop a cell phone/passport in. I'm also hoping it will fit under the seat on an airplane, it looks like it may. All in all, this bag meets my needs.

Amazing - compact and smooth!
Right off the bat, I want to express my admiration for how this thing was advertised as "smooth ride". I didn't buy it for that specifically but I was astonished at how that's definitely true. I wheel this thing around with me every single day -- it makes a two-mile roundtrip through a city whose sidewalks haven't seen better days since the 60s when they were probably first paved, and it's been an absolute trooper. I have a laptop in there (all the accessories I need for the laptop such as the charger, mouse, etc.), a lunch box, two sweatshirts, a sketchbook, and a drawing tablet. It's a tight fit, but nothing is getting damaged or bent. The handle is very long so it's very comfortable to roll without feeling like I have to slightly drop my shoulder to accomodate, which has relieved a lot of the back pain I've had from using a regular luggage bag. It's got a plastic underside which takes away the anxiety of coming to sudden stops on concrete and fearing that you may have torn the underside of the bag. I will say, I haven't used it as a backpack much because it's not particularly comfortable long-term. Because of the compartment where the handle is stored, the back is rigid flat and doesn't have any ergonomic give -- it feels exactly how you would imagine attaching backpack to a luggage bag would be. I'm not taking off any stars for this though, because I still greatly appreciate the option when I need to get somewhere at a brisk jog, or I don't want to hurt my shoulders/arms from carrying it with one hand up several flights of stairs.

Best Purchase I have ever made
You know you need a rolling backpack when you grow three inches after removing your current backpack. Going to school nowadays requires several textbooks, notebooks, and a laptop--not to mention the sack lunch you try to shove in on top. This rolling backpack is QUALITY. It was exactly what I needed. I named him Hugo. Hugo and I have been together for two years now, and he shows no signs of wear and tear. This is incredible, because I walk around West Valley College campus for a mile or two each day just trying to get from one class to another. Hugo has been rolled through the rain-- (my books did not get wet)-- across grass, dirt, and bumpy tarmac, and even flown to Texas and back. My laptop fits perfectly in the laptop pocket on the inside---and I have a large laptop, too, not a Netbook or whatever they're called. It's easy to roll this thing, and it takes all the weight for you. You don't feel like you're dragging it around because it rolls so smoothly. I don't use the straps ever, so I can't tell you how that function is, but everything else is sublime in design. To give you an idea of space, my record for shoving books into this backpack is twelve thick books. (twelve books, not textbooks). That was on top of my laptop, cord, and notebooks for class. Please, if you get a rolling backpack, get this one. It's worth the money, it's not flimsy, it stays working for who knows how long--for two years running so far, it's spacious, it protects laptops well, the handle's easy to hold on to, it doesn't make too much noise when it's rolling--- it's just an awesome, awesome backpack. If I could find the design team that made it, I'd send them all thank you cards.

Great durable bag with two flaws
I have been using this bag for work for about a month now and love it. It holds a lot of stuff and has a great internal pocket/sleeve in the main bag compartment for my laptop. The sleeve is in the front of the main compartment so other stuff you load into the bag doesn't press on the laptop which is nice. The telescoping handle comes out smoothly and is a great height for me at 5'8". There is one reviewer who said it was short and only went out one length. I think his handle was defective because mine comes out two lengths and is plenty long for me so I think others who are a couple inches taller would be fine as well. The wheels roll smoothly even over bumpy terrain (I cross cobblestones on my way in to work and have no issues). Two things that I don't like: 1) There is only ONE beverage pocket on the side. What?! There is plenty of room for another beverage pocket on the other side of the bag so I'm perplexed why they didn't throw one on. I do frequently bring in two travel coffee mugs to work so I have to carry one. :( 2) It's a bit heavy to carry on my back. I don't roll this bag the whole time, I carry it half the time and with the telescope handle and the wheels and my stuff it gets to be a bit heavy. If you are going to carry it on your back long distances, you might want to look at another bag. All in all this is a great bag and very durable. The zippers slide easily and the fabric is very thick and should last a long time. I'm very happy with the purchase

Not Good For Dual Laptops
The backpack is fine but for my use case it did not last.1. I had it just under a year before the seams started to come apart on the main compartment. 2. I did not like that the pockets don’t stretch that much which could explain why the seams started to come apart.

Freaking Awesome!!!
This backpack is so worth it!! It is so versatile. I love how the straps hide away into a little pouch and you can wheel it around or you can pull your straps out in two seconds clip them in and carry it like a backpack. I’ve been using it for two weeks now and I absolutely love it. Lots and lots of storage space Lots of compartments and internal compartments. A must have if you’re in the market. Well built (in my opinion) and I love the top wide handle easy to carry and move around one handed. Wheels are rollerblade wheels. Very smooth. Fits in any overhead carry on any flight even a commuter flight

This bag pwns.
Awesome travel bag. It's not super huge so you can keep in the overhead but has enough room for short trips. I dragged it around Seattle for a convention, in and out of the rain. Took it on the ferry and had it with me most of the time and it held up well. I never strapped it to my back, rather kept it rolling around and even when I was running away from homeless attackers, it held up quite well and rolled smooth and has shown pretty much no signs of breaking down. Very happy with the purchase, probably more than most of the garbage I end up with these days.

Excellent
Finally a well balanced roll on backpack that does not topple. Has enough pockets and pockets within pockets to quickly throw in and retreive your stuff when travelling thru airport.

The best travel companion .
I've used this product for 10 yrs now . Bought the second recently. And it's one of the best travel bag I must say . It's handy in the airports .. as it's a trolley and backpack . Especially with kids . I manage to carry 2 days cloths aswell just in case the checkin goes missing . It's sturdy and the pull up backpack handle is a very good option as it helps in hurried aircraft exits and if we need to climb up to the aircraft etc.. It's priced a bit high . But the quality is very good. Also want to make a note . Please bring out more colours and sell it in retail s as the traveller s are increasing . Worth the buy!

Best travel backpack/ carryon ever
I recently purchased this High Sierra Travel Backpack, and I couldn’t be more satisfied. This bag is a complete travel solution, packed with features for all your storage needs. The main compartment is spacious enough to fit clothes for a 4 to 5 days trip easily. There’s also a dedicated laptop pocket, which is a big plus for those who need to work on the go. The front zipper pocket comes with multiple small compartments, perfect for organizing pens, papers, and other essentials. Plus it has wheels which is so handy. I used this backpack during my recent trip to Italy as carry on, and it exceeded my expectations. I packed it full, unsure if it could handle the load, but it performed beautifully. The bag held up well and was incredibly convenient. I’m thrilled with my purchase, especially since I got it on sale. If you’re looking for a reliable travel bag that doubles as a laptop backpack, this is the one. Highly recommend!
