Melissa & Doug Farm Wooden Cube Puzzle with Storage Tray

I got this for a "big sister" present for a friend about to have her second kid but, I chose this because I use this regularly as a pediatric Occupational Therapist. So many ways to play with this - make the animal as it's supposed to be, make a silly animal, make a new animal sound to match the silly mixed-up animal, tell a story about the animal you made, build a tower, draw the animal, build it in the box or out, just to name a few ideas... This is a great present for a second-time mom with a new baby since the pieces are big enough to not get lost or be a hazard to a baby and doesn't have so many pieces that clean up is awful. The pictures are bright and the design is simple enough to not be overwhelming and provides room for creativity. Sturdy and cute. A great toy for ages 3 - 5... the kid needs to be able to understand putting together a simple puzzle without cutouts, not get too frustrated that there are 6 options on each side (younger children may find that aspect hard), and can work on visual perception, fine motor, visual-motor, executive functioning, flexibility, and many many other skills! A great toy overall!

Packaging could be better. One corner was torn so had to reorder. It was stuffed in the mailbox and that is probably what damaged it. My two-year old through 10 year old grandchildren love these. I bought the farm, wild, and zoo puzzles, I think. Sometimes we have to put a little extra glue on the pictures, but so worth it for the fun they have. They stack the blocks, build fortresses, etc. l They learn to color code to put the puzzles together. Great price.

I gave this puzzle to my daughters (age 1.5 and 3.5) for Christmas. Practically the first day, the stickers started to peel here and there. It wasn't terrible, but it's obvious that over time this isn't going to hold up. I'm terribly disappointed because I wanted such a neat puzzle to last for the grandchildren. This puzzle is advertised as a wooden puzzle, which implies quality construction. It may be made of wood under the stickers, but that doesn't mean it's going to last. After purchasing the Cutting Food Box by Melissa & Doug, (which is a fabulous, durable, awesome toy) I foolishly assumed that this would be of the same great quality, probably with a painted-on finish. Or at least a layer of lamination over the stupid stickers to protect them!!! Well, it's just typical cheap "made in China" junk. I called the company to complain. The first lady I spoke to assured me that this was absolutely not supposed to happen, it must be that I just got a bad one. She told me she'd send me a new one right away. Here I am, over a month later, no new puzzle has arrived. So I called again and spoke to a gentlemen who wasn't so helpful. Apparantly, they just entered my information today, so my puzzle should ship tomorrow. I can't believe it's taking them so long to ship me a new one. But I guess, since they've already taken my money I'm not a priority anymore. To top it off, my replacement puzzle will be of the same construction, no improvements. I don't really even want it anymore, but the customer service guy "didn't know what else to tell me." Well the bottom line is, don't waste your money on this one, at least not if you're expecting something long-lasting.

First of all, this puzzle was advertised as being intended for kids 3 and up. I cannot imagine a 3 year old being able to do this puzzle without parental help or a lot of frustration! My husband and I (who have put it together several times) enjoy watching other adults in the family try to figure it out! That aside, it really is a great concept. The assembly tray is a bit fragile though - we received one in pretty shattered condition but after some wood glue and a bit of sanding with a nail file it looks like new again. (Note: Awesome customer service, too! When I reported that our tray had come in pieces, they sent a brand new puzzle right out even after I told them I could most likely fix it.) The pieces are essentially wooden blocks covered with a sticker - which is a bit of a problem on one of our puzzles (we have two) because the sticker hangs over the edges of the blocks and catching it on your hands makes it peel back a bit. I've had to take tiny scissors and trim a few. My almost 3 year old really loves helping me put the puzzle together - she's too little to figure out which side of the 6-sided cubes is the piece to a certain puzzle, so I find the right sides and she finds the animal's eyes, nose, feet, etc until the puzzle is together. It's a great toy to grow into. And if you add the Pets Cube Puzzle, which we did, and mix up ALL the pieces it's even better when you're an older child (or adult!)

the puzzle itself is exactly as described and shown in the ad image which is always a huge plus. All the blocks are sanded nice and smooth and the paint is goof quality. there are no chips, cracks or strange printing errors like smudges anywhere. All the pieces fit in nice and easy and they have a nice weight for little ones to play with. My toddler loves this puzzle and it's a really great alternative to screens when they need something engaging to play with. I would say this makes a great gift or a nice addition to your kids learning toys.

I bought this for my 3 year old grandson's birthday. He loves puzzles and the concept of this puzzle with it being 6 in 1 was great and challenging. I liked the fact that it was all wood, which I believed would make it more durable. Unfortunately, only using it once, the stickers were coming off. Not just one or two, but several of them. It was disappointing. I didn't return it because a simple spot of elmer's glue fixed it. He does love the puzzle though. I just did not like the fact that I had to go back and glue down some of the stickers.

Pretty hard puzzle for 3yo but we will get there. Blocks are heavy and good quality, i like the tray it comes in.

Quality is rather terrible as compared to other products from this brand. Took out from packaging and stickers are already peeling off. I think the size of the sticker is a little too big for the block so the kid will also try peeling off the stickers too. Not sure if I want to let them play with it now. The wooden tray also chipped off.

Very good for children

Excellent puzzle, quite challenging for the 3 year old I bought it for!
