Clean
Just what I was looking for and a great price as well. This thing is crisp all the way around. Individual strings are as clean as anything I have played in the past. Harmonics are super and the sustain is amazing. Distorted or Plain Jane this is a great pickup. Just remember that DiMarzio color codes their wiring differently than Duncan or anyone else for that matter, so follow the schematics closely. I highly recommend this pickup.

Fantastic Pickup
Great clarity. The output is insane! Great for many styles of music. Better than any stock pickup. I would highly recommend it.

Meh
Ok so after a week of having this installed i can say that this pickup is o.k. It doesnt replicate an active to me what so ever. Honestly the stock Jackson pickup that it replaced i like better.

The d activator just flat out sounds awesome. Much cleaner
Very clear sound . I put this in a schecter omen 6 guitar after trying the mo' joe in the bridge . The mo joe was ok , it had decent warm cleans and handled distortion well too , but it sounded kind of muddy to my ears, just a tad, it may have been that I purchased one of these cheap wiring harness to go with it , but whatever the case I wanted more output and clarity and crunch if I should want it .I put in some new pots and wiring and installed the d activator in the bridge . First thing I noticed is how much clearer and hotter the pick up was . It was pushing more distortion out . I made sure I recorded a clip of my old humbucker before I removed it . And compared the two . The d activator just flat out sounds awesome . Much cleaner , clearer and notes don't sound brittle and tiny . When soloing the notes sing and sustain so well . With high gain you can get a big crunch and clarity . Even cleans are fairly good . They're bright and clear but not overally bright , bringing down the tone knob and lowering the treble always helps , and it still keeps the clarity . Way better than emg 81s that's for damn sure .I've had emg 81s before . And in all honesty I prefer these . Emg 81s are good high output pickups . But they're basically an all metal pickup . You gotta ask yourself are you just going to play metal on your guitar ? I know I'm not , this pickup can do lots of genres well. , and I think it's overlooked because it's modeled after active pickups . This really can do hard rock , to metal , to beautiful cleans . The best part about clear opening sounding pickups that have a treblier sound is you can always add in more bass and more mids. But when you have a pickup with high mids and bass and it's making you sound muddy , there's really no way remove that completely . I definitely would recommend this pickup if your have a really muddy/ dark sounding guitar and want a brighter higher output pickup ...But still .. It's probably not for everyone so to be sure check out some clips first . Find some clips that give this pickup some justice ... Not all clips are recorded the same ..If you're into rock / metal / shred this will make a great pickup for you . From my experience this does metal/hard rock / classic rock / modern rock all really well . And anyhing that requires a bright clean tone pretty well. .

Active pickup qualities in a passive pickup package. DiMarzio delivers on their promise here.
I've had this pickup installed in my SG for about a week, and all I can say is wow! I play mostly hard rock and metal styles, and this pickup delivers. Originally I was thinking EMG's, but those pickups have qualities I do not like. They can sound somewhat sterile, are not very versatile and involve active electronics and batteries. After doing some research, I stumbled on this little gem. DiMarzio describes it as a passive pickup that delivers everything you like from active pickups, but without the downsides. With some kind of pickup wizardry, they have achieved just this imo. The D-Activators have all of the harmonics, output, pick attack and bite of active pickups, but without the sterility, batteries and lack of headroomBottom line - if you like the EMG 81 or 60 and want something similar without the active electronics crap? Give this thing a shot. Keep in mind, it will likely sound better in a darker sounding guitar like my SG, because it is rocking some high end. It may sound harsh in a bright guitar.Pros- Excellent pick attack matching that of EMG's- Great harmonics and note clarity- High output, up there with active pickups- No batteries, no bs!Cons- May be too bright for some guitars- Only ok for clean tones (unless you roll back the volume or split the coils and roll off the treble)

High expectations
I really expected more from this item. The pick up is good; just good. I would like to try the Evolutions to have a better opinion.
