Samyang Hot Chicken Topokki Tteokbokki Rice Cake Bowl (Pack of 4)

These are fantastic.For anyone wondering like I was, they are not gluten free.The rice cakes are but the sauce is not and the ingredients for the sauce are not listed in the item spec.

An amazing, if slightly expensive, way to test yourself and your spice tolerance. I thought I'd be fine with the entire sauce packet and was sorely mistaken..! Second time around, I added milk and garlic and drank my weight in more milk - and it was bareable..! Go me!It's also a good food for chopstick skillz, if you're clueless - it's a good way to practice the pressure required, cause the tteokbokki themselves are slippery.Only thing I will say is that both times, the sauce exploded all over my microwave. So maybe leave the lid off a little or poke some holes..!

Great with cheese

They're good, but you have to do them a bit differently to the instructions.Microwave the rice cakes separately in water, don't dilute the sauce and then mix them together with whatever extras you want (they don't include a flake packet for some reason, just I added nori and sesame), before microwaving them for a minute or two. It's a lot less saucy and looks like the picture on the packaging.

The rice cakes don't come out like the soft cooked rice cakes you'd expect if you follow the instructions. They're like al dente pasta. I always cook it for longer than it says to make them softer and add a little more water (you have to be careful though cus if you add too much it'll be too soupy, in my opinion it's not as nice). I think even filling to their line is still too watery, i might try adding some cornstarch or something next time to help thicken the soup. The flavour is AMAZING though, so yummy!

My favourite samyang product so far, the squidgey texture is amazing and the spice level and taste is exactly right for me on this one. Not too mild not too hot. I'm a huge fan of all the samyang noodles and glad I tried these rice cakes!! Was on a veronica wang youtube video hehe.

spicier than i expected but got used to it. absolutely love it. prefer to mix it with more stuff than just eat it by itself tho
