Ecco Bella Natural Vegan Mascara for Sensitive Eyes, Brown

Ecco Bella FlowerColor Plant Based Vegan Mascara (Black) goes on very light. I want volume, so I continued to dip the wand and apply. I found even more success for volume when I allowed it to dry for a little while before making another application. Dries well. Doesn't run or smudge. I'm very happy with how this looks and works. I found it was useful beyond mascara, that I can dab the tip of an eyeliner brush on the end of the mascara wand to collect some product and apply like a liquid eyeliner, another product I have struggled to find a safe version of. I have had NO symptoms or allergic reactions from this mascara. I even slept in it overnight and still no symptoms. It also stayed in place well too. Washed off easily with a washcloth. The reason I decided to give Ecco Bella Mascara a try was because of the guarantee and return policy. When there is a product claim for "all-natural" "for sensitive eyes and skin," "Vegan, Cruelty-Free, paraben-free, gluten-free and fragrance-free" the 100% Satisfaction Guarantee gives me exactly what I need to take a risk. I have evaluated literally hundreds of mascara brands, scouring ingredient lists to ensure that known offenders wouldn't be in there. However, the problem for me are the unknown offenders. Uncovering problem ingredients seems to be a never-ending effort. This is why I need manufacturers to stand behind their product with satisfaction guarantees and a fair return policies, because usually it doesn't work out. Trying something new is an expensive proposition. So I won't even try something unless that is in place. I simply don't have that kind of money. Coming up empty handed in the marketplace, I tried making my own mascara -- which was clumpy if it wasn't runny. I just couldn't get a consistent formula. Making my own makeup is NOT what I want to do with my time. And I don't want to be sick, so I've not been wearing any for a long time. I wish I could say where I heard about this product. Maybe it was from my MCS group or from a Google Search on "chemically safe" or "non-toxic" mascaras. Whatever the path, I'm very glad I found it. It's everything I want in a mascara generally, but also everything I want as someone who has severe Multiple Chemical Sensitivities. I'm looking forward to see how long it takes for this to be used up or dried out and will revise this listing again when that happens so you can know about the shelf life I experience. As long as the company maintains its current formula and delivers this product as I am experiencing it now and also can also show me a decent shelf life, I will be a lifelong customer.

Like many other reviewers, I have never found the perfect mascara. I need to lengthen and thicken, but the mascaras I've tried which do that are messy, and tend to make clumps. I have a nice little sonia kashuk comb/brush for eyelashes which helps to remove clumps and lashes sticking together, but would love not to need it. Hoped that this "bare bones" mascara would be great. It's actually not too bad. Goes on cleanly, but I have to apply it at least three times to get any volume. The big issue is the brush. It is not straight as in the picture on Amazon. It is straight in the container, but when pulled out it snaps to a 60 degree angle to the handle. This is a neat way to hold and apply, but when it goes back into the container any excess mascara is scraped off the brush and onto the lip of the container. After a few days there is mascara all over the edges of the container and the wand handle. Cleaning this off is a mess and a waste. I like the formula-it is very black, but the design of the applicator is terrible. Ecco Bella contacted me shortly after my review went live. They said that the applicator brush should be straight and are sending me a new one. Apparently I received a defective one. I have upgraded my review to three stars and we'll see how it goes. Jan. 24, 2014: I received the new straight brush and have used it for about a week. Too bad Ecco Bella didn't send a complete replacement, as I wasted a lot of mascara from my first purchase while trying to use the defective brush. Maybe they wanted to be sure the brush was straight. Bottom line is I really love this mascara. It clumps less than any other I have used. It goes on cleanly and is the blackest, most amazingly concentrated color I have ever seen. And, as other reviewers have said, it does this with just a few ingredients. I still do several applications each time for lengthening and volume. It creates a natural effect which is very flattering without looking like false eyelashes. LOVE IT enough to change my review to five stars!

I have slowly been trying to transition my beauty routine from chemical laden products, to organic, more natural, makeup. While I have found the Environmental Working Group (EWG) website helpful for my sunscreen purchases, their beauty section is decidedly less organized. I did still utilize the EWG website, to compare and consider product ingredients. I found Ecco Bella Black Mascara through Amazon searches; I was trying to decide between three different more "natural" mascara products, and finally decided to settle on the Ecco Bella brand due to good reviewer feedback about the product. The mascara comes packaged in a professional appearing container, with a cute + practical mirror embedded on the backside of the product. I was pleased with the performance of the Ecco Bella mascara, however, the experience will not be the same as the chemical filled products you may be use to. The mascara darkened my lashes, and added minimal length and "fullness" (especially with multiple applications). At times, the mascara could be just a little bit clumpy, but the problem is easily alleviated by taking a little bit of Kleenex or toilet paper and wiping the brush. The Ecco Bella mascara did take a little bit of time to dry (I would say about a minute), but once dry, the product did not smear or flake. Overall, I would say that the Ecco Bella brand, is a Great, more natural, alternative solution to traditional mascara. The results will not be as dramatic as some products with chemical fillers, but your eyes will still get some definition and "pop", without risking possible harm to your body.

My review title tells my biggest complaint with this mascara. In all my days of mascara wand wielding, I've never dealt with a product that is so prone to clumps and the dreaded tarantula eye look. I'm chalking it up to the nature of the brush and my own lack of skill after using anti-clump mascara for so long. A base prep coat really helps with this problem. Otherwise, I'm quite satisfied with this. I purchased the mascara in brown and love the color and how smoothly everything goes on (save for those darn clumps). And this truly does have some incredible staying power that doesn't flake as much as the more expensive department store brands--awesome. So I suppose this is one of those reviews where the good and bad cancel each other out. If you're good at putting on mascara, I recommend this. If you're like, you might want to find another product.

I really like it. Goes on nicely, stays on. I like the brush and the little mirror. I also feel it's fairly priced, unlike many other all natural cosmetics. I was losing lashes with the old name brand after a couple months of using this only, I have my lashes back! I'm 53! In my opinion, it's the best! Update 10/14/2018 I wanted to update my review because I thought it might help someone who is looking for safer alternatives to their cosmetic products. I have now been using Ecco Bella's mascara for over 2 years and recently have decided to give it a fresh look to be sure my choices are still the best I can make for myself and my friends and family. I have been using a few Lemongrass products (in particular their lipstick, eye cream and bug repellant and LOVE them) but Ecco Bella's mascara beats Lemongrass (which I am considering selling) in my book. My reasons are two fold: First, Ecco Bella's price is under $13, while LS's is $16 plus shipping and second, Ecco Bella's mascara has only 6 ingredients! That's it! To be fair I haven't tried LS's mascara and the extra ingredients there appear to be moisturizing but given the EB mascara does not run, flake or wear off and I'm not one of those who takes my mascara off to sleep or swim I just can't imagine another product being this good for the fair price they offer it. One warning, do not assume that because Ecco Bella's mascara is the safest choice that all their products are. Do your research. For example, I've been using their lipstick until recently when I learned the castor oil is not organic. I don't believe all ingredients need to be organic but castor oil in lipstick is a must in my opinion because of the pesticides the non organic may contain and in a lipstick that I may be ingesting at least occasionally, that's important to me. I hope this helps someone. :-)

I used to love this mascara but the past 2 tubes I've purchased have not been very good- clumpy (literally have to wipe large amounts of mascara off the applicator before applying), and it doesn't stay on like it use to. By noon I can see mascara under my eyelashes, by 5 PM I'm a racoon!. Maybe the formula changed because it used to be better. I will not buy this product anymore due to poor performance.

This is not a perfect product, but it is a GREAT alternative to "conventional" mascaras packed with chemicals and irritants. I've tried "natural" mascaras in the past and they all had some deal breaker - they smudged, flaked, applied clumpy, were crazy expensive, etc. - so I wasn't expecting a whole lot from the Ecco Bella FlowerColor mascara. I've used a CoverGirl mascara for YEARS because I have finicky eyelashes - they are relatively long but light colored and extremely fine. Most mascaras are too wet for my eyelashes and turn them in sad, clumpy flylashes, so I've stuck to waxier formulas. I was really pleasantly surprised that the Ecco Bella mascara doesn't clump up on my eyelashes. It's a wetter formula than I'm used to, but slow and careful application prevents any clumping. The plus side to this wetter formulation is that any stray mascara marks from application wipe away INSTANTLY. Seriously. No more rubbing or tugging at your delicate eye area! Another plus - despite being "natural," I haven't had any issues with Ecco Bella flaking or smudging. I wore it for the first time on a rainy day and thought, "Well, this is either asking for raccoon eyes, or the most perfect mascara test!" To my SHOCK, the Ecco Bella didn't smudge or run AT ALL! Like I said, the Ecco Bella FlowerColor is not a perfect product. It doesn't give my eyelashes the volume I'm used to and as I've mentioned, it is a much wetter formula than I'd like. But as far as natural mascaras go, this one is hard to beat. EDIT June 2016: After a month of using this mascara, I still love it. It has started to dry out some, which has made it easier to apply and build coats for volume. As mentioned, I prefer drier, waxier mascaras, so this is perfect for me. If you have fine eyelashes that clump easily, I would still recommend this mascara, but expect to wait a few minutes between coats (I usually put a coat of mascara on, brush my teeth, then put on another - 2 coats is, for me, perfect for daytime/casual/work settings, but of course, your mileage may vary).

Too thick!

It’s ok but doesn’t work very well. Doesn’t annoy my eyes, but doesn’t flatter them either.

I've been using this mascara for 10 years, it's the only mascara I've used that doesn't irritate my eyes. It's not waterproof but it's definitely more transfer-proof than conventional non-waterproof mascaras. One issue is that the ingredients in the listing are inaccurate. The photo shows the full ingredients, which are also listed on the brand's official website.

I'm so happy to have found this amazing mascara! I've been wanting to find a natural alternative for years as I've been trying to slowly get chemicals out of my life and this is my final cosmetic to have made the switch. I have tried several different natural mascaras which all left smudges under my eyes as the day progressed. I'm so happy to find that this mascara is different! I have worn it for several weeks now without a single smudge also under mascara-challenging conditions. I teach yoga and even on a day when I'm teaching three sweaty classes in one day, this mascara holds fast and looks great even at the end of the day with one application. The bottle is very sweet with a mirror on the side. The mascara is a beautiful colour and leaves my eye lashes looking long and defined in a natural way, separating the individual eyelashes with the sweet little brush. It honestly works better than any chemical mascara I've tried in the past - and I've tried them all! I can't recommend it enough

Very good mascara. I was looking for a non toxic , easy to remove mascara in brown color. I have very sensitive eyes and most of the mascara I used in the past made my eyes red by and of the day and after few days constant use, I had to take brakes, because my eyes felt very tired. The mascara last all day, doesn't smudge toward and of the day. The only little minus is that the mascara a bit watery, so it takes a bit longer to dry compare to other non toxic mascaras that I used . Other than that , the best non toxic mascara that I ever used.
