a tasty real cane sugar root beer
Abita Brewery is best known here in Louisiana for their good alcoholic beers made in the town of Abita Springs (north of New Orleans), but in my opinion the root beer they also brew is head and shoulders above almost all nationally marketed and some good specialty brands typically available in stores. This is a no caffeine carbonated drink that does make a nice head of foam when poured over ice. They use La. cane sugar (vs HFCS) and it's made with their local spring water (vs others' filtered water versions) which, I'm sure, helps contribute to the bold creamy taste. The online price may seem high for the glass bottle version, but they also market a 12 can pack that's more affordable. Even here in La., regular grocery store prices range from about 85 cents (lowest) to $1 a bottle (average), unless there is the very occasional sale on. Certainly worth a try if you're a root beer aficionado, even at the online cost, so shop around for the best Prime seller price. Bottoms up! If you're really lucky when visiting the Greater New Orleans area, Abita root beer can be found on tap at a few eateries around town.
